How big of a mini split for 6k room

R

RedRain

getting a mini split is stupid

get a full condenser unit. you can winterize them to run at -50 no problem. Mini splits are problematic and hard to run in low temps.

If you are planning to run it it the winter look for a low ambient kit. Inverter units save hydro under light load conditions so they don't save so much in a gro application. water cooled AC units are hands down the best cooling solution in areas that have cold winters and hot summers if you can supply the water there is nothing better.

Poopy,

Google Coolerado. Don't remember who posted it before, but they are 90% more efficient on power than AC units. Just not sure why more growers don't use them.

Min. Circuit Ampacity: 15 A
Max. Overcurrent Protection: 20 A

does this mean i need to dedicate 20a to this unit? i think i only have 60a total and i have to stay under 80% so thats 48a i have to play with... 20amps just for a/c leaves me with shit to work with.... can barely run the 6k on that and thats not including any pumps chillers or fans.... or dehumidifiers....

You're fine. The a/c will only use 15 amps so subtract that from 60 and you're left with 45 amps. Six lights at 240 is 25 amps giving a total of 40 amps well below the 48 max.

Here's one way to set it up..run the 60amp line into a sub panel and set up three breakers: A 40amp double pole for the timer to run the lights, a 20amp double pole for the a/c and a 15amp single pole to run pumps, fans and such.

So long as you don't plug in more than 8amps or 960 watts of fans and pumps etc..you'll be fine. If you have more than 960 watts of other stuff at 120 see if you can wire everything at 240 instead giving you 1920 watts of space on the last circuit. If you don't have anymore space in the main breaker box and you need a few hundred watts of extra 120 space to run small pumps or similar you might be able to piggy back of an existing circuit wired near the room. Just make sure the existing circuit doesn't have much load in the house, don't use a kitchen circuit for example.

Subpanels are super cheap. Just because you need a 20amp double pole circuit in the 60 amp panel does not mean you just ate 20amps. You just ate 15amps, the number of amps the a/c actually uses.

Any suggestions on where to buy these things? I'm looking into a Mr. Slim 36k BTU w/heat pump for my 6k, but the prices vary greatly. Anyone do any research into where to buy? I've found units that are discontinued that run $3500, and new models running $4000. So expensive...

those coolerado units use exterior air to blow into the room, might be hard to control humidity with them, especially if you need it higher.

Quit amazing units though, I will say. Would be good for a work shop or industrial setting.

www.acwholesalers.com or www.goductless.com
They are affiliated with each other. I've bought several from them and their service is great and their prices are comparable to any other 'site.
