cottonseed meal

i picked up some Hi-Yield cottonseed meal. what do you guys think about using this as an amendment with bone, blood, and kelp meal?

and you might be wondering, why am i using two fertilizers for a main nitrogen source, and that answer being i already have a cooked mix which needs to be amended. its got MG blood and bone meal so i kinda wanted to replace the nitrogen source somewhat with cottonseed meal.

All you need is some commercial poultry manure and you'll have a mix that Miracle Grow calls "organic".

from my understanding,cotton isnt a edible crop so thers a huge green light for conventional chemical growers to pretty much do what they want

I'll back up this statement. I hav e a big 50 pound bag of the stuff that I no longer use.

Apparently there are no regulations wrt pesticides or whatever for producing cottonseed meal, so be real careful using it.

I would think you could substitute alfala meal be be fine

Yeah, much better, plus growth hormones (tricantonol) that your plants will love. Be careful, it can and will burn, so use sparingly. 1 to 1 1/2 TBS to start, and go from there. Some strains will take a lot more, but be sure to cook your mix down for a few weeks.

i had done some reading when i first started on meals for nitrogen sources
sounds like cotton seed may have some nastiness, pity
i read up a bit on soybean meal, which sounded promising
but i've been using the MG bone meal(6-9-0) for nitrogen, it does work well

Cotton is the most heavily sprayed crop in Agriculture, and they use fungicides, insecticides, herbicides. I wouldn't use it, even in compost. Good luck. -granger

Cotton seed meal is acidic as well, takes a bit of time to break down, 3 months if not longer. If you use a liquid soybean meal watch out for chlorides several products out there I know have a ton of chlorides in them (had them tested by a lab). Alfalfa is a good one, you can make a fermented extract out of it using lacto bacillus and it's working well as a boost, flax seed meal is one way I would go if you're using seed meal. It's not gmo (no one would accept gmo flax from what I had read although I could be wrong) and generally they are not spraying it although you can find organic flax seed meal cheaper than organic soy or cotton. Blood meal, bone meal and mined potassium sulfate make a pretty good organic fertilizer, although not complete but can make a pretty good building block for what you need. Gypsum is also a good amendment as it will add calcium and sulfur for you without touching your pH.

check out buildasoil for the best prices and most organic stuff i have found..i now have realized that all the shit i bought for 2015 guerilla grow that i paid 5x more for much less..i could have got a whole damn pallet of liveing soil shipped to me compared to what i paid for a few products to amend soil and neem/karanja meal and oils *face palm* live and learn i guess-gl for the upcoming outdoor grow season and happy new year Icmaggers

I'd be careful sourcing your alfalfa as well. Ever heard of Round up Ready alfalfa? GMO heaven plus more round up than anything should be able to handle. Yummy
