Will a rootbound plant autoflower?

I started 2 bagseeds for a test before my main grow and they're already like 2 weeks old so I figure I might as well try and grow em out.

I have them in like a half gallon pot, will they flower once they get rootbound which is hopefully soon? I want a few grams in June maybe lol.

If they are not from genetics that are known to autoflower when rootbound (like Sweet Pink Grapefruit/SPG, Sweet Tooth, LUI, and other related strains like Mikado) then most likely no they will not flower unless the plants receive the necessary critical hours of darkness each night to promote flowering & reproductive growth. They are just going to suffocate themselves once badly rootbound and start showing leaf deficencies and growth will slow dramatically until the plant eventually dies.

Cannabis plants in general do not do very well when rootbound at a young age they need ample rootspace to properly grow & develop in preparation for flowering under their required natural photoperiod. If you are looking for strains that will flower quickly independent of a light cycle you should try to source some fully autoflowering strains like Lowryder 2 for instance but there are many others also. With autoflowering strains you can literally plant seeds and harvest buds 2 months later. Check out seedboutique there are plenty for sale there from Gypsy :canabis:

They won't flower until sexually mature. Yes rootbound plants will flower even under 24/0. Once rootbound they're actually not very healthy and not a way to finish them off. Why don't you just ensure adequate root space and grow them 12/12 from here on out instead? If growing outdoors just cover them with a trash can to manipulate the light cycle.

All strains will definitely NOT flower when rootbound, that is a fact. :good:

His "bagseed" (probably mexican sativa) is extremely unlikely to autoflower when rootbound. :tiphat:

I haven't witnessed a root bound cannabis plant auto-flower, though I know that flowering root bound plants suffer horribly. I attempted to flower an already root bound plant once, and the buds never really grew. I cut the plant down early to open up some grow space.

Flowering is strictly light cycle dependant, which is quite amazing when we think about it. I have met amateur growers who weren't even aware that the reason plants grew buds was due to the light and dark cycle, they assumed it was plant food only.

That's not true. Autoflowers aside regarding the light cycle thing a friend had J1 (Jack Herer x Skunk #1) and another strain I can't remember at this point in his mother room. I told him to repot and he was lazy. All the mothers started to flower in a 24/0 enviro. We had to cut the rootballs back, stick in fresh soil and took a few weeks for them to turn around.

If you run plants outdoors and have the same cut in a container and the same cut in the ground the container plant will generally finish sooner especially if the container is undersized.

well, first off.. there is no test grow, either you are growing, or your not. don't take this in a bad way, as you will see growing like anything in life can be fear based.. all the questions flood a new growers head, they say to test grow / what if I mess up / how do I do this / what if I run into that / not sure about this.... grow and enjoy, be happy and all will turn out fine for you.. I suggest you plant the seeds you want to plant ASAP.. the sooner you do the sooner you will be harvesting the plant you wanted.. what's the worst that can happen?

now on auto-flowering, depends on strain, but most don't auto-flower under being root-bound, root-bound is just gonna stunt your plant and your plant will not like it's cramped living condition's compared to a nice big loft

I grow a clone only strain that auto flowers as soon as it starts to get rootbound, it only takes a few curls of the roots at the bottom of the pot for it to trigger.

I've grown hundreds of other strains from seed and never encountered this, so it's quite rare and is really not a reliable way to force the flowering of a plant.

What strain would that be? Is it citrusy sweet by any chance? ;)

I've had several strains getting fuzzy when rootbound - including Swt#3.
They won't normally yield much like that though and the buds you get are typically nowhere as potent and fragrant as buds from plants finished under better conditions.

UMM,lol since when has "bagseed" been Mexican Sativa?? The chance of that is not so good these days givin the situation in Mexico. Who knows what the 'bagseed" is these days. He would be lucky if it real Mexi Sativa :)
