There are also these Ozone tubes which use a UV light or something thats supposed to get rid of the odour.
They banned carbon filters where i live, so they sell the ozone tubes now.

I heard the Ona gel doesn't last that long, so even if you could get it to work at a satisfactory level it would still be cheaper to either buy or make your own carbon filter. If you don't want to get caught there aren't really any other options.

I don't use a carbon scrubber in my grow, I have pics and a thread posted in this very forum if you wish to see. Like Redneck Shogun mentioned, I am growing Bogglegum(a northern lights cross) so it doesn't put off a ton of smell during flowering. I also smoke in my house though so I am not too worried about the smell, hence the no carbon scrubber. But honestly you cant really smell my plants until the 5-6 week mark and even then its just a little bit right after the lights go off or if you are working directly with them.

I still haven't put a scrubber in my cfl scrog cab.

So far I've only grown low odor strains. When I had c99 growing in there, you could smell a slight sweet smell when you walked into the room the cab was in, but the odor didn't make it out of that room.

I definitely wouldn't grow any really stinky diesel strains in a cab without a scrubber.

There will be plant odor mixed in with the OnA scent. I tried that. To fix, I added a small pc filter kit with 1/2" of carbon in between the halves. No smell at all. Stack two fans to increase draw through the filter.

The carbon is laid out in one half, and I sandwich the other half on. Add more carbon after you get three corners bolted on. Then bolt the last one on. Get it packed decent so you don't have any air gaps.

I feel for all you folks who have to worry about the smell. I am fortunately lucky not to have to run a filter. I was ecstatic the first whiff of Skunk 1 I smelled coming from my room.
One day we all WILL be able to decide if we want to run a filter or not.
Till that day comes be safe.

im just starting a micro cab inside a mini fridge in my closet, and i dont think my PC fan is strong enough to pull/push through my carbon filter and keep temps down. so i plan on just leavin the filter off instead of buying a new fan. i just dont want hella dank smell to get stuck in all my clothes in the closet, but if theres a little smell its ok cuz i usually smell kinda like weed anyway, i just wanna keep it to a minimum.

1 plant, CFLs, no smell problems.

Sometimes, during its light on phase, if the rooms door is closed, the cab fills the room with a slight scent, it just builds up. One of those pine tree air fresheners solve that issue. I use 1 freshener a week. At a dollar a piece.

No smell for less than 20 dollars.

my small cfl grow. i run no filter. low smell cause no stress.
But my cabinet needs a few!!

running without a filter and trying to be convert is very counter-productive.
Beside I think non-smelling buds are boring!

Just built a customizable(depth) carbon filter for pc fans. works much better than nothing.
here is the DIY link.

i have be using some of the carbon prefilter stuff you can get at various home improvement places, its works decently and is noticeably better than nothing.

But making a proper carbon scrubber is easy to do, and will keep it even more stealth

when the breeder from Nederzaad was still alive , i went to visit him at his place in amsterdam and he never used a carbon filter

he said they used to do it this way i the positronics

so he had a torin fan in a box in his room with a tube almost hanging out the window

the torin fan sucked outdoor air IN cia the tube and expelled it via another tube going to his growing closet the closet had a hole on top through which the air exited the closet cuz of the pressure

so he only had intake and inside his closet an oscillating fan.

and you didnt smell a thing

as a matter of fact i even asked him to show me a flowering plant cuz i didnt smell anything

and indeed he showed me an almost finished green dragon plant

to this day i have never dared to try this at my own place and since he is dead i cant ask for the details

remember him saying something like the intake needs to be 10 times the volume of the room

i've run low odor strains with cfls and without a carbon filter. and you can do it with ona. i used vaportek discs (1 a week) at the cab's passive intake, and then added a glade plugin to the room. no smell outside the room. inside, it smelled like the plugin. inside the box smelled of weed and vaportek. but i think the safest (re: stealthiest) plan is to add another computer fan and have them both using a diy filter. that'll push/pull just enough air thru the filter to cool the box.

I know lots of people who get away with Ona and are running 1000w +. Some people pop the whole jar and just let the exhausted air pass over it.... Others will place milk-caps with small amounts around the grow area which makes it last longer. It works OK if you do it right and always make sure you use more when needed. The best thing to do is a combo of a filter and gel for sure cause it seems 50% of the time people set up filters wrong or use them too long and you still have that whiff factor once in a while. If your running a filter with the proper fan 24/7 then its only gonna be 100% effective for 6 months if even. They make noise and electricity too so you could be buying the Ona by the bucket and still saving cash. ( It's hard to burn a $40 gallon of this stuff in two months! ) Just my two cents, if I wasn't in a med state I would use both.

If you live in a non med state I wouldn't even chance it...Depending on genetics, even the smallest plant will funk shit up...If ure not gonna run one def go w/ a low odor strain w/ some ona or smthn....but even low odor strains stink...

Just depends on ure situation...good luck
