1st Trip To A Hydro Store

So I made my first trip to a hydro / grow store yesterday. I was like a kid in a candy store running around with a hughe smile on my face. :) The atmosphere was very laid back and the staff were very helpful. I only went in for some soil and fertilizer but ended up getting soil, worm castings, perlite, fertilizer, a fan, a new bulb, and a two drying racks. :dance013:

Was anyone else like this the first time at a grow shop?

I try to stay away from hydro shops. Most everything there can be made by buying the stuff somewhere that you don't feel like your getting fucked without a reach around when you go for your wallet.

Hell brudda still am. Just like here ther is always new stuff to learn about. After 30 plus years livin under a Threat (still a felony) Its nice not to have to take my plates off my truck before pulling in.
MIdnight is right on also. Build/mix what ever you can,the d.i.y list here is to die for. But when you got to spend it. Spend it! Pick a good store with smart helpful fellow growers. Not just good salesmen. Good Luck:wave:

Hydro shops are like NO FLY ZONES to me, ya never know who the peeps are Involved with who own the shops and if they get a tip a major grower shops at a certain hydro shop and their looking for this dude your license plate just might get a few snap shots and logged to get info on were you live, would you willingly know theirs lions in a den but yet walk in with steaks in your hands??

Ups or Fedex are the way to go

Couple reasons why. Until recently I haven't lived near any shops and just ordered lights, etc. online. Now I'm legal and where I live there are 4 shops within a 30 minute drive. Plus I've always been too paranoid. As far as being excited, until yesterday I've never seen a hydro setup or even an air cooled light in person. Lame or not I was excited.

No problem. Just feeling a bit defensive. :tiphat: I'm mostly an outdoor grower and don't have much of a need for equipment. Hell I'm just now trying clones.

Clearcutter, just funnin bro.I know what ya mean about a kid in the candy store.Thats how I feel when Clarence reaches those lil furry red stubs down into his bag of trix :)

There's probably lots of peeps that feel like that walking into a dispencary, personally I wouldn't buy anything from one myself, well maybe a cut some day if anything.Too many good strains right here on the bay.

Most of the time you can get what you want online or build it yourself. That in itself will save you a ton of dollars. I only go to the hydro shop if I have no other choice. Like if I have to get new nutes or something. The prices online are far better. Every single hydro-store I have ever been too... is a ripoff. The areo cloner in my sig, I made myself and saved a ton of $$. The hydro store wanted $425 for a 400 watt HPS, I got one online for $130 it works just as good and it came with a reflector, HPS & MH bulbs and hangers included.

:yeahthats

You can alway find it cheaper than in the hydro store, well that and I'd rather not go to the shop that sells cannabis growing equipment.
They have camera's inside and most likely outside too and there is no way the ones over here would refuse to hand the tapes over to the police....so that in itself is a good enough reason to stay clear.

If you have to go to these places, best to get a non growing buddy to drive and go in for you while you babysit the car a few streets away.

I dont like those places.....

if your non-med state and hitting the shop in your neighborhood, probably not a good idea. other than that, i think most of you are being paranoid. out here going to the hydro shop is more of a inconvenciance to my day of smoking, etc.

ive built up a good relationship with a shop in my town, they always give me a decent discount because i let them know i can find such and such online for a certain price. i dont mind paying an extra 10-20 bucks for a ballast and supporting local business than buying online and risking them shipping in an obvious hydroponic grow box (which already happened).......now i only buy the hard to find stuff online. like my fogmaster JR, or some smartpots, but for soil, nutes, and other random stuff its easier to just hit the local hydro shop..

It's not about being paranoid it's more about getting ripped off. $425 for a ballast is a far cry from $130. Not to mention when I went in to the hydro-store and was looking for a couple of tents and they wanted $325 for the same tent I found online for $109. I have never had a problem with online orders, I ask for secure shipping in plain brown boxes. Never get anything that has to ship across the border. I went in to get the neoprene cloning collers you see in my cloner.. they wanted $3 a peice. Apparently they not only want to get rich off me, they want to insult my intelligence.

If your hydro shop is good to you then I am happy for you. Everyone I have ever visited has no other interest then making cash at my expense. I use disposable Visa and order Online.

anyone have a particular website they like to visit?? i myself am a user of the hydro store and its really all i know. however, i have two types of grow stores in my state. One specifically is a chain that is in 3 of out major cities and give considerable discount. the other type that has popped up everywhere are most the time just over priced, in non discreet areas, and no selection and no one with any knowledge so i could see both sides to the argument. i never visit my own town's local grow shop and the one i do go to is in a safe, non commercial area.
