Hi!

I think that pro-mix soil don't have nutrients in it?!?!?

Why when I flush brand new all use pro-mix the first 200ml run off is at 1.5 EC??

My starting water was at 0.1 EC !

thank you!

from promixhp data sheet. PRO-MIX 'HP' is a "High Porosity" peat-based growing medium. During the course of crop production, it is necessary to initiate a fertilizer program. The fertilizer program selected should consider water nutrient
content, crop type and stage of plant development. It is essential to begin fertilization within 7 days after
planting and maintain fertilizer applications throughout the course of crop production.

From the nutrient analysis of agrocoir,
Regular Coarse Fine Hydroponic Sphagnum
Coir Coir Coir Coir Peat

Percent N 0.51 0.39 0.49 0.57 0.40
Dry Wt. P 0.08 0.07 0.08 0.09 0.02
K 1.87 1.66 1.79 1.99 0.05
Ca 0.15 0.13 0.14 0.17 0.30
Mg 0.10 0.09 0.10 0.11 0.08
S 0.07 0.06 0.07 0.10 0.05

flush promix well then use solves all ur problems. lol if you want full control get the medium exactly where u want it and keep it there thruout the grow and you will get max yields.

Nothing wrong with promix. In fact I woulld go so far as to say a sizable group of dedicated growers use promix here on IC. I'm one of the satisfied ones by far. This grow was with promix with lime and amended oganic goodies. But I always start the in plain promix and after two weeks they go in to the amended mix

All I use is Pro-Mix from seedling/clone to flowering. Right out of the bag into the pot. Nothing added, never flush the stuff. Plants get fertilized with every watering. The results can be seen in my gallery.

i can echo these sentiments. but for sure to be fair there are multiple types of "pro-mix" out there. the stuff that you find in home depot's garden section along with the "miracle grow organic" and Schultz's mediums is complete shit. well, maybe that is too harsh, but it came with so many soil/fungus gnats i didn't really get to judge the grow cuz i was too busy swatting flies. :ambushed: lol

however... i recently tried something that only just popped up in the grow stores around here (rockies area). it is called "pro-mix" but is a dif sort of thing, made by OMRI. consistency is more like shredded coco and from what i understand has some seashells and FFOF-type nutes in it. (?) here is a pic:

i used to mix happy frog with coco (Bcuzz or cheaper brands if didn't have the loot) at a ratio of 50/50, then went to this pro-mix and will never go elsewhere. i tried it cuz it was cheap as hell. i kept it around because it works. not sure if it would be good by itself for babies, but i did just do a side-by-side with rooted clones and let them veg for a few weeks..should be able to make out the writing on the bag. pro-mix only on left, then FFOF only, then the 50/50 mixture of the two:

took three clones with close size roots and leafs etc. as could get, put them in 1/2 gal containers and tracked em. results showed the best node development and growth tip progress was with the mixture, noticably. but both the plain FFOF and plain OMRI Pro-Mix did fine too, as you see.

hope that helps. here are a few bloom shots of the 50/50 mix in action to support my assertion that it works. :smoke:

OMRI is an institute that regulates and approves products to be sold with an "organic" label so the "promix" that you came across isn't likely to be made by them, just approved by them. premier horticulture is who makes the real promix that many growers across the country use (bedding plants, hanging baskets, etc.). it's basically a formulation of peat, perlite, a wetting agent, possibly vermiculite, and lime for ph stability. any potting soils you find that have something along these lines are going to work great. pro mix and sunshine are the best i've come across. if you don't use the soils made by companies that are developed toward growers they may be too heavy for indoor mj growing and need to be cut with a little more perlite to acheive greater aeration to promote excellent and fast root growth and help avoid overwatering. if you didn't have good luck with pro mix then your doing something wrong...
