My plan was to put them out the second week of may. I was going to start them under a 400MH with the light timer set to come on and go off matching the sunrise and sunset times of the week i plant to put them out.
Im not sure if a light schedule of 18/6 is such a good idea, but Ive never planted seeds outside =)

Peace LM

at my lat(45)on june 7th,its a 16/8 schedule, sun rises at approx.5:30 am and sets at approx. 9:30 pm,thats 16 hours, has worked well for me for 4 years,i used to get screwed sometimes using 18/6 with photosensitive strains so i just switched to the 16/8,you could even go 16.5/7.5.if you were close to my lat i wouldnt put them out until they were at least 7 inches high with good roots,i have found over the years that if i put my seeds to germ at that time it takes up to 3 days to germ, and gives me almost 3 weeks veg, they stand up to a lot more when grown up a bit(2-3 weeks from seeds)

i think your plan is right on target illman. closely matching natural daylenghts will illiminate any shock or growth delay.

Great advice right here^^.

Although I start my seed outdoors everything you said here mimics what I see during germination from the 3 days (presoaked seeds) germ period to the 3-week veg time. I always pull mine a week later and have 12-16inch seedlings. It’s cool to see the germination and veg growth patterns are basically the same indoors and out.

Hamstring, would you tell us how you grow from seed outside ? I have a few im going to start outside from seed. Should i crack them first and get a bit of a tail first before i plant them ?

Thanx bud, LM

I use 6500k florescent until about 12" high. Going longer than 16-18 hours may cause flower with the light change when you put them out.. I'll do 24 and set them out in march for an early crop in may. Putting them out in May after long light hours may cause flower and reveg in June. I also supplement with lights outside to keep the hours up.
They really don't need too much hardening. Watch them the first couple of days. Some do better than others. I try to put them outside on warmer days but with critters and all, they are better off inside until they're a bit bigger.

No prob it’s really no different than what chongsbuddy does indoors. I soak my seeds for 24hrs in a Ziploc then remove the water and place them in a bunch of wet paper towels and back in the Ziploc and check on them in another 12-24hrs. I keep each strain in a different Ziploc and I once I see a few tails I am ready to head off in the bush. Now each strain may vary and I don’t necessarily wait for every seed to show a tail just when 50% or so show.
One thing that I do that I think is important (no data to qualify my thoughts) for putting these seeds outdoors is the temp that I pop them. I don’t put my soaking seeds in a window or on anything heated I just keep them in a dark drawer. My reasoning is I don’t want to pop my seeds at 85% in a heated window then haul them out in the bush and put them in 65% soil. Your house will be anywhere from 68 - 70% and I think its less of a shock on the seeds when the go in the soil outdoors.

Hope that helps but again if you have popped seeds indoors its basically the same but yes you would like to see tails but don’t wait so long that some seeds have 1 inch long tail and others are just breaking open. If your spot were hard to get to I would rather just plant the unopened seeds if 50% were popped.
