new grower needs help with soil grow.

Hi guys! This is my first post here at icmag I must say there seems to be an abundance of knowledge here but I can't seem to find any way to search the forums. Can someone help me there?
Also a friend has about 9 plants in soil and is having problems filling up his water jug every time. Is there any way to just have a weeks worth of nutrient water mix in a resevoir? If so what's the best way to go about that?
He is also thinking of getting two 600 ups lights and was wondering if there were anyone out there who has a similar set up and can help with the design in the cheapest and not efficient way. Like I said I wish I knew where the search function was. Anyways hope to hear from you guys soon. Thanks so much and have a great day
