Diluting Bleach to add everyday as a daily preventative measure

My last run ended well finally after I added some great white, but it was too late and my yields suffered a little bit because of the root rot.

I've decided I am going to go with dead reses by putting in bleach every day to avoid any root rot problems, but I am having trouble diluting bleach correctly and I am hoping for some assistance.

Krunchbubble's formula says "2 mils per 10 gallons for initial root rot killing, 1 mil per 10 gallon there after, every other day". However, I want to dilute it enough to where it equals out to 20ml a day per 10 gallons instead of 1ml every other day per 10 gallons.

Is it sufficient to say that if I use a 1:60 dilution ratio that I could add 20ml a day per 10 gallons and still be within the recommended usage?

Edit:
I am using 6% Sodium hypochlorite.

Thanks in advance.

It depends on the strenght of the bleach. Clorox is 6% sodium hypochlorite. Some generics are 3%.

Hello,

Your goal is to have a chlorine ppm of 1-2 in order to keep anaerobic bacteria and other bad stuff at bay.

Using regular Clorox (6%) this could be done applying 6-8 drops to each gallon of water.

20 drops = 1 ml

That sounds like a lot more than Krunchbubble's 1-2ml per 10 gallons. You are suggesting 10ml per gallon?

Sounds like he's saying 20 drops = 10mL as a conversion, so 6-8 drops = 3-4 mL which is still higher than Mr. Bubble is using.

I don't mind making it stronger, as long it doesn't kill the plants, but I am trying to figure out if my math is correct.

1ml to 37.854L (10 gallons) is what Krunchbubble is suggesting.

I wanna make it 20ML to 37.854L (10 gallons).

An easier way might be to take a 5 gallon bucket at 10ml and then fill your liter container from there.

So 1ml per 2.5 gallons would be 8 drops per gallon.

Is there any noticeable effect on pH from adding bleach?

///EDIT/// I don't think my conversion is correct

initial root rot kill - 2 ml per 10 gallons

to maintain to rot - 1 ml per 10 gallons, every other day...

I've heard (taken with a grain of salt) that too much sodium can interfere with uptake of Ca and possibly K. Adding too much bleach could possibly lead to Ca and K defs.

I finally got the answer I was looking for over in another forum.

The individuals at the other forum suggested that if I wanted to have add 1-2ml at at 20ml diluted rate, I just need to add 20ml of liquid.

Sgt. from what I understand we only need a few ppm of Sodium hypochlorite. I don't think that adding a few ppm of Sodium hypochlorite will probably hurt things too much.

It shouldn't. The MSDS says it has ph of 11.4, but then again, you adding so little I am not sure it is going to change that much.

ive read the thread... but does this actually work? has anyone done this through an entire cycle with success?

Adding bleach is common in the hydroponic industry and a few guys around here use it. While there are those who run their res's with bennies, I am going to run mine without bennies, other known as a dead res.

Just wanna make sure that you get the measurements right, as with anything in hydroponics.

Update, I tired the bleach thing for a few days and found that my roots didn't like it. I did the whole 1ML per 10 gallons and didn't find it to really work.

I am gonna try the h2o2 instead. I think I'll probably get a much better result out of that.

DM Zone and SM90 aren't very pricey and your roots will LOVE them.

I tried SM90 and I used it with bleach...bad idea...I think almost you have to use one or the other.

I am going to use h2o2 for the next few weeks and see what happens. Doing 20ML of 15% every day for my 8-10 gallon res. So far so good!
