There are scattered reports on the internets about using charring to convert the calcium in eggshells, and vinegar to chelate it. Is this just a party trick, or does anyone have experience using this technique for real?

I don't understand why they do not mention it. I think it is the reason for the different formulations...i.e. for veggies, for fruit trees, etc.
If it was just calcium chloride why would there be any need for different formulas. Apparently they use different amounts based on some research for the individual plants.
And again...tria is not the issue. I am convinced it is safe. It is the solvent use to make it miscible in water that concerns me.
The thing I have seen indoors...spraying every other week until the end of stretch...is that it knocks a week off my flowering time.

Hi.....I know NorCal can be great, I lived not far from Mendicino ( Town ) for a few years. Just had one year where it was a bad season with fog and i heard last season wasnt to good as well.
We are having a bad year this year with sooooo much rain, not good for the early plants.
Anyway best of luck this season....I wil be watching with anticipation, some of the plants you guy's are growing are insane

Hey Kanga, I'm hoping that our location further inland will prove to be less prone to moist years and the ensuing mold / fungus issues. We have the Sacramento Valley between us and the coast, and the summers are dry as a bone. We're at 3500 feet, and 40n, so our problems have more to do with cold temps and weakening sun rays. I'm still trying to figure out what's the best kind of herb to grow here. (Thinking indicas in a light dep, as the sun at summer's height is just crystalline madness...) But I like sativa-dominant crosses, since straight sats are outta the question, at least without HID in a greenhouse.

I had some friends growing Thai plants for years on Mt. Aukum. I think that was 2500 ft. The Red Leb/ Afghani hybrid they grew did the best. The Thai was very good tho.

Hey just wanted to report, i've got my beds solarizing right now and just about all my plants in the green house for this year ready to go out when the threat of frost is gone.
Look for 2-4 mil clear ...I ended up with some 6 mil and some 4 mil and the 4 mil is getting hotter than the 6 mil but both are working fine

You can bet I'm going to keep experimenting. But we were battling rain and frost in the beginning of November last with our Jack the Ripper. (Now it's my favorite smoke, we'll push that line again this year.)
I've got a meager four little seedlings of Tom Hill's DC / Haze f2. Try to mate a couple of them and hopefully somewhere in there is a real nice Haze hybrid that will just fit in the window of this area's growing season. (Or maybe three.)
Our friends down the hill have a climate closer to Mt. Aukum, I'll bet. They probably have peas already, almost. We're lucky if there are no frosts after April 15th; last 4/20 it was snowing!

my beds are solarizing. 2s will be bumped up to 5s, 6" squares to 2s 5s to 10 and I'll be in the g pad for 2 more weeks. Planting at the end of the month with supplemental lighting in the yard. Woot woot.
