EWC has beneficial microbes of all sorts. It has some water soluble nutrients, calmag and micronutes but won't burn sensiive plants. It is also an ideal medium for the roots. I usually add pumice or diatomaceous earth for additional aeration and drainage in containers.

i use a mix of perlite , worm casts, and coco with some added lime, bat guano, and bone meal. then i feed with some fish emulsion or biobizz grow during veg and biobizz bloom during flowering with molasses and fulvic acid for the flush.

the worm castings i get is high in nitrogen and contains all essential nutrients for plant growth. as said above it contains a high amount of beneficial bacteria but lacks in beneficial fungi. the stuff i get is pH balanced to 6.8 but i have tested some home made stuff and it can get as high as 8.5 so its best to cure it for a while with some mushroom compost to cull some of the nitrogen fixing bacteria which cause the high pH.

THe reason i ask is because i read about worm castings when i just started thinking about growing and when i was looking for soil i saw one with worm castings and peat one second ill go look on the Bag ok...Freeland Potting Soil with pure worm castings perlite peat moss and it comes with freeland root booster.

FreeLand Potting Soil Organically Balanced All Purpose Potting Soil
Contains composted recycled organic materials, forest products, perlite, pure worm castings (RootBooster) and peat moss (to adjust pH and moisture content. Plant directly into the Potting Soil for exceptional results. No additional ingredients are required when planting because the RootBooster will slowly feed your plant and help it get established. Retains a tremendous amount of water for its weight.

Worm castings are the shit :)

Now that I've been using worm castings from my own worm bin in my soil, I seriously can't imagine growing any other way. It really has made a tremendous difference.

worm castings have many applications and are an organic grower's best friend.

WC teas are the best for introducing multitudes of microbial life into the rootmass, plus you have the added benifit of it being cheap (or free)

Don't trust that the soil you are using has enough worm castings, its good to always add more to your mix, plus you'll want to add more later in the plants growth cycle for the heavy feeders. EWC, Humus and Mycorrizae will give your soil life with bacteria and fungi that are beneficial and help break down any dead matter in your soil while allowing your roots to better absorb the right nutrients it needs.

If you are using soil, you are not only growing plants, but you are growing soil as well, soil is alive with life. You can kill your soil too just like you can kill a plant.. Take as much care and attention to your soil as you do to your plants :)

Thanks i never really new that but do you have any suggestions for good worm castings?

the best ones are home made ... not as hard as you think and well worth the minimal effort. worming 101 in the organic soil stickies and maria applehof "worms eat my garbage" are good primers.

I'd suggest making sure its pure worm castings and not worm compost which will have bark and other stuff in it. There are tons of good bands out there, it will depend on what you have access to. I use Black Gold brand..

Be aware of two things; Too much humic acid (not humus) will deter bacterial activity. Placing mycorrhizal spores anywhere but in your planting hole or on your prepared cutting is a waste.

I've always thought so too. I look at products like "Mykos Xtreem" and read on the back of their package on their one kilo package. ... It said, if I remember right, that it had 60 spores per gram. Hmmm, I know what a gram of powder looks like:bigeye:...and only 60 active spores in that gram? Doesn't seem like much to me. On the front is says "Pure Fungi Mycorrhizal Inoculant". So WTF is it? Pure? or 60 spores per gram surrounded by a bunch of fillers??

Then the potting soil companies that use fancy artwork on their bags use something like this in their mix, then boldly state that they use Fungi Mycorrhizal Inoculant in the mix - but do not state how much is in it..2 grams per bag? 120 spores per 1.5 cubic feet? That's nothing. Don't get fooled by the artwork.

Sorry for getting off topic here....
