setting up shop in Michigan

I have places to grow. I can grow. I'm considering making this a livelihood.

What I don't have is information. I read the law here http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(qk...Object&objectName=mcl-Initiated-Law-1-of-2008

and it seems like anyone can do this as long as you're not a convicted drug felon, and over 21.

Is that all there is to it in terms of requirements (outside of filling out forms and fees)?

I read somewhere in this forum that if you're a patient yourself you can grow up to 72 plants given the appropriate number of care givers. What are current medical prices in Michigan? Or is there even a dispensary type culture there?

Given absolute ideal conditions, what could one say you'd be looking at for net income ?

Sorry if any of this info is re-hashed, but I've had a hard time finding it in these forums and google takes me to 1990's style geocities web pages with little to no worthwhile information. This seems to be one of the only places I can find with people in the know :)

Am I right about the requirements though? I COULD in theory just file the paper work from my current location and move/start growing upon approval?

Are there sanctioned methods for caregivers to get hooked up with patients?

You have to have a Michigan drivers license or State ID card. When you fill out the paperwork they (MDCH) wants a copy of your ID. Also you need patients to become a CG. You CAN NOT just apply without patients. You are allowed 5 patients and 12 plant per patient. Sorry but there is no money in it at all. Patients want there meds for free or very cheap. Dispensaries are selling crap weed and charging 15-20 a gram. Selling to a dispensary is not possible at this time or they will offer you 200 an oz. Also you are only allowed 2.5oz per patient. Currently there is no "network" for CG and patients. But it doesnt matter because like I said patients want it for free, they feel that they are doing you a favor. Thanks. Also right now is a bad time in Michigan as the law is still "grey", its only been 2 years and you know the gov they move very slowwww. Dispensaries are under the microscope and being busted all the time. If you move to MI for this DO NOT move to the west side of the state (the religious people are having a hard time with this law). The Detroit area I would say is the best. Anyway its tuff right now. I hope this helps. You can check out this site.

The site owners are complete assholes so be careful not to hurt anyone's feelings. Not sure if you should check that site out, alot of misinformation and they are kinda "simple" at the site.
Good luck

Well money can be made if the quality is right. I hook up my first two patients for free they are close friends and only use an 1/8th a week at most. With my other patients a pay there yearly doctors fee and aplication fee to the state and they buy medication from me. The could get free meds from someone else but they know i can get them top quality meds thats all that matters to some people. You can also get better than 200 at some dispensaries depending on your quality. you definantly have to wade through the bullshit I visited over 15 clubs before I found the one I do the most business with. My best advise is stay away from shops in the city find one in a rural area. I know of only one in lansing thats not run by thugs. Prices tend to be about 50 dollars an oz cheaper than last year but they have began to stabalize. The cali shit is hear to stay but unless the wholesale guys drop the prices with that stuff even lower we are ok.

Add to that Nevada & Colorado... though some are saying that their attny (same guy?) aren't accepting CO or CA, at this time. Apparently a pending case to determine something...?

And this place is thug! In a good way... lol

Just moved over & things are very undefined with many ways to cut a living. You just have to have a little game is all.

Well, if you're going to be selling to a dispensary, be very careful. MI has republicans in power now, and you can be sure they're going to do everything they can to limit what can be done with this law, and neuter the hell out of it as much as they can. After all, we have a state AG who is a confirmed anti, and not only that, but the state legislature has vowed to "fix" our law once the current budget battle is over. Seems the MMJ community here might be in for some hard times.

Now, I know it takes a 2/3 majority to do anything since this was a voter based initiative, but remember... we're talking about republicans, and the republican party has a history of turning the dogs loose on med growers at the federal level. We can reasonably expect no better from them at the state level as well.

A grow bro moved to michigan for that very reason- didn't know anyone in the game and wanted to get involved with the security of dealing with store fronts.

Would suck if 90 days after he signed his lease, game over..

Ok, but what could they do really. They could shut down the dispensaries, but caregiving is still better than ,say Colorado, right? Michigan's 5 patient/12 plant limit is appealing. Surely they won't screw that up.

How is it better than Colorado? I know physicians in Colorado who will write 30+ plant scripts for one person. The MI scene is superior to Colorado in two ways, and two ways only:

A) LB's are going for about 20-30% higher in MI
B) You can dispense to the clubs in Michigan. You cannot in CO

Colorado wins in every other way imaginable for growers. Less precedent for harassing small/medium growers, easier grow environment in the literal sense (humidity, etc), more established scene, by no means stable but much less turbulent legal environment (see above), etc.

Hmm...More things to consider. I was going to Colorado until the new law cluster f**k. I would much prefer CO. Closer to home. I just didn't think it would be as profitable as MI. Tell me more.

From my perspective, if I had friends in the scene in Colorado I'd be there tomorrow. I'd sacrifice 20-30% less income to live there as opposed to Michigan in a heart beat. Alas, I have no such friends, and I'm not interested in moving somewhere with my fingers crossed that I meet some cool people.

If you know people in Colorado and your opinion of the two states is similar to mine, I don't know why you wouldn't go. If you don't know people, well..I can't tell ya what to do with your life. I barely trust the people I grew up with in "that kind of situation," if you know what I mean. New people? Ugh....rather find a new profession personally.

We went over there (CO) just before the new law. Met with an attorney and met a couple growers, they seemed like decent people, but IDK. A friend of mine has some seemingly decent connections there.

Yes I dread the thought of living in that climate (MI) as well as being farther from friends and family.

I don't have that kind of cash, but yes, if you're six figures deep and have no felony's, that's a viable option in Michigan and not in Colorado.

If you feel confident in your connections, run with both feet. I stay up at night and consider taking a plunge out of Michigan even without said connections. Not a fan of this place overall.

Maybe you could use some fresh ideas, people, purposes, goals to rekindle whatever positivities might have been there before.
