GH Maxi vs Jacks/Peters

Ok so I've been reading on few different forums of people having great success with the GH Maxi products and couldn't be happier with the results and not to mention less work when it comes to mixing. The sames goes for the Peters/jack fertilizers people are having great results with them as well.

So let's hear some insight and results as well.

This would help people who don't which product to choose the maxi or the jacks/peters fertilizers.

Milehighmedical how's the comparison with biocanna vs maxi going?
I would be very interested in this comparison as I like the canna and biocanna lines.

So when running the MB like mentioned on the K.I.S.S thread do you run into any deficiencies?

About the biocanna's additives being expensive I agree with you. That's where they get you....

Let's just say the that with biocanna the end result is better as far as quality goes. Are you willing to stick with biocanna and justify spending more on biocanna?

milehigh...gotta say I too am considering the organic approach for quality. Cost can be considerably lower if you are willing to build a soil and then amend it...no? I am thinking over time it should be no more expensive than Maxi...just need a dedicated area for soil building/amending.

There's no deficiencies when running Maxi Bloom... the only thing that could happen is that nitrogen could go a little early. That that can be remedied by feeding more often (rather than feed-water-feed... water-feed-feed, etc) A lot of people like it that way, but I top dress with earthworm castings to give a steady low N supply throughout flowering to keep it green. Then let it all go at the end. But you really don't need anything other than Maxi Bloom to keep things on point. Every now and then there's a strain related exception that might be able to use some epsom salts, but I haven't run into it yet.

Well, the cost to produce a gram of herb with maxi bloom is around 3-4 cents. The cost to produce a gram of herb with bio canna is about 30-40 cents. So, it's about ten times as expensive as maxi bloom. But, seriously... when you're talking about a considerable quality upgrade, spending an extra 25 cents per gram is acceptable. It's rough but I'm just trying to step things up in a competitive Colorado. For the average person I would always recommend maxi bloom, but I want to address a higher level of quality that's beyond the average expectations. We'll see...

I myself like to go with the organic method. I personally don't mind spending a little more if the quality is there like you mentioned. I did/do organics and couldn't be happier.

But I also like the maxi bloom and jacks/peters methods.

A lot people who go with the amended soil say all "I do is add water".

Have you looked into subcools super soil?

Im sure it will be more expensive then the Maxi but it would be worth it IMO

Is Maxi/koolbloom going to grow me a better quality medicine than jacks+Calnit? Anyone done a sidebyside with straight h2o topfeed organic style and mineral salts?

The issue with pre-mixed water-only soil formula's is you can't take back what you put in. So it's safer to go light on everything, so you need to supplement here and there to fill the gaps and keep everything tight. I've wanted to do it again soon, but the last time I did it all I had was mysterious deficiencies with macro and micro nutrients coming and going as they pleased. Haha, I probably had a worse experience than most with it, but I've seen a lot of people have the same issues. Of course everyone swears on blazeone's recipe's but I know it's not a magic bullet. No one listens to the people for who it doesn't work, lol. Forums can be funny that way, sometimes. Not that this should discourage anyone, once you have a water-only dialed in it's badass! And it can totally be spot on first try, just not for everyone.

I never thought about what you said in your first sentence but you are absolutely correct.

hi, green thumbs!

i have used both jack's and maxibloom extensively and believe the jacks to be superior to maxibloom, but only slightly.

the jack's 5-12-26 hydroponic special used with calcium nitrate as directed is intended for ro water and has over 6% magnesium in the base formula. they recommended a water analysis only if you are not using ro or distilled water.

i use it with atami coco and produce flawless plants with no signs of deficiencies or discoloration.

i don't think maxibloom has enough magnesium or calcium for most media. when i used it i added to 750 ppm maxibloom 100 ppm calcium nitrate and 50 ppm magnesium sulfate. this is in ro water.

the peters product has less magnesium in the formula, i think around 3%.

a 25 lb bag of jack's plus shipping is around $50 and i paid 28 dollars for the calcium nitrate locally. enough to last years.

my thread has a lot of info on jack's.

How do you guys get the powders to mix so well mine always fall out in the rez and I premix it in a 1 gal, shake the hell out of it and then mix it in the rez with a pump. I had to switch back to the gh liquids (micro/bloom) from the maxibloom, plants seem to like the liquids better as well.
