too cool and youll get unwanted fungus/bacteria in the rock wool from not respirating properly.
got that fan running full time?
how long does it take to get above 80 in there with it off?

They're in a tray on a heated mat, .. Fan is blowing air around the room itself

Right now, just the fluorescents are on.. Not close to 80

Doin' my best.. Temp in the tray is probably 68-72ish, .. Battling the ambient temperature in the room, but the tray is on a mat..

Hoping to get all wired up this weekend, ... Gonna veg 'em, hopin' to throw the switch early-mid-April.

Kind of a lull in the activity now..

Shit.

Looks like I forgot to do two key things before going to bed last night: 1) Add water to the tray, 'water' the cuttings and 2) Put the lid back on the frickin' tray.

Woke up this morning to two verrrryyyyy tired and wilty cuttings. Sonofabitch.

Did some emergency witchdoctor voodoo, hoping for the best. (The voodoo amounted to watering 'em, leaving some water in the tray, and putting the lid back. All the things I should've done in the first place).

And the REAL voodoo part is me keeping my fingers crossed....

Thanks man! Total bonehead move. I about shit a brick this morning.

It's a feeling similar to when you see those flashers go off in your rear view mirror..

A bit of a pucker, if I may say so myself...

Clones 15 days after cutting. A couple different stresses, I think. No good. Got pretty dried out once, and I think I accidentally splashed 'em with some mild tea (was watering the older veggie seedlings right nearby).

So far, +15 days, still no roots outta the 1.5" cube. They seem to be standing tall (now), tips up, etc.. But zero root-age (that I can see, even when I cheat and split the cube apart a smidge), and they look a little battered.

Took the bottom set of leafs off of the WWxBB (on the R) because they yelllllooooowed/tattered/nogooded

(Before & since the tea-splash-oops, nothin' but straight set-out water)

Whaddo y'all think? Just hang on and give it time? Meddle? ..I'd have thought they'd have rooted them damned selves by now.

..chompin' at the bit here..

FWIW

Finally decided to get in ass-kickin' mode, figger out the issue here, ..

Jabbed the probe end of a thermy into one of the cubes, .. about 65 degrees.

Now I've got 'em upstairs, on a table, sitting atop a heat mat under a dome, with a small space heater underneath the table.

Heat of the cubes now? 75.8 degrees. Yes please.

Got a little aggro and tore a bit of one of the cubes (WWxBB) apart, could see roots goin' just fine, .. Just not THROUGH the cubes yet.

So, I'm fairly certain I had two things goin' here, .. One, was not good to even splash 'em with even the mild tea, .. Two, .. The things were in suspended animation, because it was so frickin' cold inside the cubes itself.

Anyway. Hopin' to be in biz in the next few days, ..

use individual cups upside down over each one to act as a mini humidity dome.

Clones shouldnt have anything but clean water. They cant assimilate nutes, it only invites unwanteds.

Potted em eh? that should help stabilize an environment to coax them roots out.
Trick is to not overwater the soil its in. too wet and if those roots had begun to come out back when they got dry, those may be dry dead roots in which they begin to decay in an area that cant respirate properly = bacteria.
Moist soil, warm soil/area, over turned clear cup to keep humid. If you can plastic, cut small vents in the top. small slits that can be adjusted-ish

Yessir - I did end up just potting the sonsabitches. ..For a variety of reasons, ..

Got 'em in pots, with a space heater in the room on a timer, with a dome on top (as best "on top" as I can, as they're in pots and have some height on 'em), on a heat mat, ..

Fingers crossed, .. It's do or die weekend!

Back from a short trip out of town, ..

Came home to two different scenes. The WW x BB seems to have acclimated itself nicely to the soil. Tips are still looking a little battered (cold? Water issues?), but the leafs are standing at attention, and there's a sighting of new growth from one of the lower crotches..

The Warrior was, well, thirsty. I've replenished the soil, but it's not looking promising over the past few hours. We'll see.

Two things struck me as a bit funny. One, prior to the weekend, the Warrior seemed to be faring better, vs. the WW x BB. Two, the wilted, tired Warrior I came home to today actually seemed to have some new growth on it, .. So I'm thinking that the conversion to the soil went well, but then it just plain old dried out in my absence.

What have we learned here? Make sure you've got a reasonably sound, consistent climate goin' on before nursing clones to root. .. I guess. I hope.

We'll see what happens with the WW x BB (I'm pretty much counting the Warrior out thus far). If the Warrior goes down the tubes and the WW x BB hangs around, I may just do a mega SCROG with the WW x BB.

Also, my mistake for having a sort of f-d up attitude when I left town. Basically, I figured, "Fuck it, I'm putting these goddamned things in some dirt, if they don't take off, fuck it, it's do-or-die." I think I counted 'em out too soon, and now, I'm counting one out. :kos:

My first mistake with growing was my lack of knowledge. Even after studying and researching for years now, I still don't know it all. Growing really is an adventure, and if your not prepared, it can really backfire.

The biggest thing I tell people who want to grow, is planning and preparation are a lot better than diagnosing and fixing a problem. Getting everything in your grow "dialed in" takes a lot of trial and error. Even then, you get unexpected things. However, with the more research you do, and continually searching for new ideas and methods gives you a serious upperhand in the matter.

Lastly, never have a "fuck it" attitude when growing plants. The planning and prep part SHOULD get you ready for unexpected things, like vacations, social events, or even the occasional sickness that renders you useless for days. There is a lot of do-or-die scenarios with growing, but that is usually due to inexperience. ( cloning was like this for me, but I had a step-by-step guide, and found it wasn't all that bad...however, I've found a simpler method to use since my first time going off a medical growers bible)

There is no set-in-stone method, its finding one that best suits you and your needs. Then its doing what is necessary to see it to completion, along with every kniddy-gritty detail. Peace and love, I will pull up a chair to see how you progress!

Also, as long as your plants haven't been without water for that long, the droopiness should change once they get that water with a good dose of light...heat exhaustion/water deprivation tends to have this effect.

SweetnSour

Agreed, in re: the planning, etc., .. However, I don't really find any of this to be a real setback, aside from a bruised ego, .. At the end of the day, it's a project for me, but thankfully none of my personal well-being is tied up in it. ;)

I'm not growing for any real NEED (personal or financial), and I've got fairly decent access around here to livestock, ..

This wasn't entirely a situation of winging-it, .. I'd expected the clones to have rooted by the time I took off out of town. But, when they hadn't rooted yet, it forces an audible. So, whaddya do? Live and learn, I suppose.

Thanks for the input - I figure this is par for the course, .. First grow in 10+ years, so it's really all just part of the ride.

ive figured out all I have by "failing" for 18 years now.

its kinda like my truck, when it starts running poorly, i learn the most about it by trying to figure out what makes each function operate properly.

where is the limiting factor....?
