Do nutrients lose their potency?

I have some nutrients that have been sitting around doing nothing for a year or so. Do they lose potency? Are some more susceptible than others? If so, is it a matter of air getting to the nutrients? If I stored the bottles upside down would they fare better?

i have seen advanced nutrients connoisseur B get white mold (or whatever it was) due to it sitting around. maybe due to the fact that light might actually penetrate the white bottles at the grow shops. did not use the bottle, so i don't know about potency issues.
i can't see how flipping the bottles upside down will help anything.

Try to shake them occasionally during storage - I try for once a month or so. Keep in a cool dark place. If they are not ok you may see sediment or cloudiness when mixed (if chem nutes). What brand nutes are we talking here?

Chemical nutes(salts) should have a very long shelf life, as long as certain ions(ie. Ca and Pi) are kept separate to avoid precipitation(ie, in an A/B progam). Organics could be a different story though...

I have some floranova, some canna a & b, miscellaneous additives like hygrozyme and superthrive and rhizotonic, cal-mag, and liquid light. I am formulating theory from several types of chemical background, like pool chems and paint solvents and regular lawn fertilizers. The upside down thing was an idea I had about air leakage and off-gassing, like how pvc glue dries out in the can but won't if you store it upside down. I now think that cool and dark is the way to promote long shelf life and that off-gassing is not a huge problem when dealing with nutrients. I will watch for cloud and make sure the mud that is floranova doesn't smell funkier than normal.

chemical fertilizers should be storable for couple of years, bio stuff normally starts going bad after a year or so... with bio stuff always check the smell, like scrubninja said, watch out for the rotten stank.

YES they do lose their nutrients after 6 months to one year tops. Store in a cool dry place NEVER warm NEVER near heat. peace out Headband707
