You can use a fluorescent. Don't know about the timing. Differs for different strains.
you can put males just about anywhere once they start flowering. you know how us guys are we dont like to stop untill finished. males generally will continue to flower with very little light. i set them all around the house and collect pollen.lower intensity light dont affect pollen quality only the amount produced

they drop pollen for for me starting after 4.5 weeks and goes for like 2 weeks.. pretty consistent w/ various strains.. Just wait till those balls are busting open and pollen wants to drop.. keep fans off obviously
In reality though, pollen starts dropping somewhere on the plant super quick, has started dropping just 8 days into flower for me once (just produced a few seeds, but still) Its amazing how fast balls are produced

Here's a thread I did on collecting pollen. It works well for me. I have pollen stored as long as a year ago that still work.

Like others have said previously, You can flower males out under fluoro's, Just check them everyday, and you will be able to catch the pollen pod opened without dropping much of its pollen, or any at all, Just pull it off, carefully, and roll it between your thumb and index finger and the pollen will fall out easily.. I like to drop the pollen in a smooth bottomed cup and let it sit out for a couple days, that way you know it will be dry...Nothing worse than spending weeks collecting pollen to find out its completely wet once your ready to use it. After you know its dry, you can pack it in an air tight contaiiner and store it in the fridge for a very long time... I've had pollen stay viable for over a year in the fridge, Many will say this is not possible, but don't believe 'em. It's not only possible, but its a FACT.
Good luck man...Finding stud males is IMO, better and more rare than finding keeper females. POLLEN! It's the Future! lol.

I did a 54 cross pollenation this winter. There were 11 males and probably 28 females. Mostly top quality Hazes, but also Headband and LA.
Heres a pic from last year or so. Pollen collection outdoors in the greenhouse.

Use a razor and scoop the pure pollen off the glass pane into the vial.
I usually just lean it over a flat surface and collect it like above.
This time however I bent the stalk over 180* and stuck it in a large pill bottle and it worked and got it all in the bottle but was kinda shitty since the balls didn't want to open as well.
I don't think you even need a floro, I did it with just room lighting once with good results. Long as it has a little bit of mass to it it doesn't need light IMO.

It then goes into a O-ring Gasket type sealed "Lock Lock" box, with a special cobalt blue demoisture block. Sealed at room temp for 1 day, then into the refrigerator for two days, then into the freezer until needed. 1 year plus is obtainable , and probably more. The pollen just gradually takes more to get less seeds. Its very viable for at least 3 months plus. I have some almost two year old in the library now.
Keep it dry. Moisture is the enemy.

Nev...Is that Nevilles Haze pollen? If so I wish I had some. I have G13Haze auto I'd like to hit that with. I've got some GHS Nevilles haze fem seeds recently but no Mr. Nice. N.H.. Maybe some day.

Nevil is a personal friend of mine. I am just finishing up a mainly Haze/ Sativa breeding project. I did 54 crosses this winter using 11 males. Two of the Males were Nevilles Haze. He wants a special cross, using his Nevilles Haze as the pollenater. I even hit some Headband, chemdog91, and SFV OG Kush clones with it.
