Are the buds on the lower portion of the plants still as potent....

....as the buds on the top? My guess is no but would like to hear from some experienced growers.
If not how much less are they

just as potent IME, just a pain to trim so they are less desirable...

I don't think they are as potent because the glands are as developed as they are on the rest of the plant. Think about it like this - if you harvested when the tops are done there is a pretty good chance that the bottoms aren't.

Of course when you turn the underbud into hash it is pretty potent.

Well it depends on how you want to look at it. The lower buds won't have as much "crystal" on them as the tops. So they will be less "potent" overall. The potency per "crystal" should overall be the same. It's not like the bottoms of the plants have different genes that produce different THC, there will be just less of it.

There just not as ripe sometimes from lack of overall energy and light. When I ran a SoG I would cut down the first 2/3 of the plant and let the rest go another week while I still had space available after new plants were moved over. That seems to get some color into the lower buds and added a decent amount of weight and bag appeal. The 5 gallon container was still using as much water as when there was an entire plant growing still.

Great explanation!

In the past, using regular horizontal lights with reflector, I would have to harvest in three to four sessions.

Lower buds are less "ripe" and developed but can get there if exposed to good lumens (at least 10,000) and let be for a while until trichs get to where you want them to be.

Other growers do this:

They harvest the colas and ripe top ones, lower lights and give plants a low feeding of 10-50-10 ( by low I mean NO more than 300 ppm) and then follow with regular PH adjusted water for another week.

The reason for a small fert dose is to add some food to the new and stronger light. They eat a little, respond and then you flush for another week.

Repeat as necessary until you reach the root.

Please note that during the whole flowering process you should not exceed 400ppm fertilizing plants in soil.

By following a very conservative and frugal feeding regime you can play this feeding game at the end without having to flush too much.

Use the BEST soil you can and fert as a miser !

I thought about doing that but was surprised i never hear or read anyone doing that before so i figured there had to be some reason for it.

Sorry for this dumb question but what is SOG, ive seen it a few times and dont know what it stands for..

its all the same and it all goes in the jar ;)

Eggzactly... You can also when harvesting start at the top and do it over the length of a few days to give the bottoms a chance to bask in the full light and more of a chance to finish, a practice I use and works out but there is always some small stuff that will stay just that(fluffy/airy)no matter what... doesn't make it bad smoke tho ;)

I have wondered if this is not unlike white tea leaves...
Think of them as sweet young flowers. They will have a different high. A special social mild stimulant.
