~Sickleg's~ MINNESOTA guerilla grow

Welcome to my thread, and personal grow journal for this season! This will be my first real attempt at growing so it should be an interesting experience. I've done an incredible amount of research on the topic across several forums and now I am very confident that I should be able to pull this off. Over the next few months I will be posting pictures and updates consistently, I hope that you will sit down and enjoy it.

~A general overview of my plan~

-Start 20 feminized seeds in my home-made CFL vegging tote. (~may 10th)
-Buy 2 yards of compost from the city and roughly a yard of perlite form a construction supply company.
-Dig the holes at night. 3.5ft x 16 inches deep.
-Haul the loose compost out to the spot. For this I will fill trash bags with the material and bring it out to my spot by foot in a military surplus duffle bag.
-Transplant the 20 or so plants outside after approximately 2-3 weeks of vegging.
-Maintenance visits will be at least once weekly; never more than twice.

~Strain Selection~

2x Aurora Indica clones (Nirvana Seeds)

As you can see, I picked a bunch of early finishers as I will be going back to school on september 10th and I don't want to deal with this shit too much while at school, you know?

I once upon a time lived at Elk River MN and had a hard freeze in the first week of October. I liked how it rained enough in the summer to not need irrigation , though. Except for early freezes and wild hemp pollinating your weed , I think Minnesota is a good place to grow cannabis.

I'm growing the Purple Maroc myself this spring.

South central and south east Minnesota have good soil and surprisingly hot summers.
Good Luck. I'll check in again.

Ah...minnesota. I'm an old Harmon Killebrew/Rod Carew Twinkie fan. Lived in New Ulm many long years back.

I'm going to keep mine at 20/4 in veg. I'm also growing two Nordic strains that may also autoflower under 18 hours of light.

Not trying to ruffle your feathers but...

Sorry Sickleg but to me your plan sounds pretty good for a backyard grow, but a disaster in the making for a guerilla grow.

Security should be your top priority. If you dont have it then you wont harvest or worse you may get busted. Maintenence visits at least once a week??? You will have trampled down paths in no time by visiting at least once per week. Golly, in my guerilla gardens i am shooting for making a visit one time max. every 3 wks.

Here is badbean's "modified" version of your plan:
~A general overview of Sickleg's plan~

SECURITY IS YOUR TOP PRIORITY!
It should go without saying that the only person that knows of your grow is you. Tell no one else, especially after the harvest. If your friends ask where you got the killer smoke, just smile and say this dude I know came across the stuff, good smoke eh bro??? hehehe

1. dig your holes 18in x 18in x 18in deep, 3.5ft x 16 inches deep holes are a little much IMO but hey it's your back.

2. for each hole ammend native soil with 1-2 gallons compost, plenty of moisture retaining crystals, 1 cup dolomite lime, kelp etc.

3. don't plant them all at the same spot: split them into at least two (three is better) patches. if one spot gets jacked then you still have two more that you can try and get to harvest.

4. some folk will tell you to wait for an overcast / rainy day to plant. good advice if you can wait for those conditions. if you cant then water them in well when you plant. last year i planted the bulk of my plants over the july4 holiday and it was sunny and upper 90's for a week, i visited them exactly one week after transplant and gave them each a gallon of water and they exploded into veg growth.

5. have a plan for dealing with deer, bugs, mold, slugs, fungus etc. be prepared for this beforehand because you will deal with some if not all of these from the time you plant until you harvest.

6. have a harvest plan worked out well before harvest. where are you drying your crop? last year a major security scare prevented me from drying at my primary drying location and i had to scramble on harvest day to come up with an alternative location. additional stress and security concerns that a grower doesnt need at harvest time.

7. pray for rain. keep track of the rainfall amounts, carry water to your plants only when necessary.

I'm sure I missed some things

Good Luck

For some reason I cant edit my first post.

I thought of another important security tip:

Don't leave any trash, cig butts, grow bags, pots, soil bags, water cans etc etc etc at your grow site EVER! The only thing you will leave behind at your grow spot are your footprints, and you should also try and avoid leaving those if possible.

good luck

Best of luck amigo!

I tossed a couple mothers that I didn't want in the veggie garden (elk river)..

They finished at over 8ft tall.

You'll do just fine!

Yeah, I'm certain I need to dig holes. I haven't mentioned this yet, but I live in the Duluth area and around here it is a few inches of topsoil and then it's just hard red clay. Really not the best for growing in. But it SHOULD help with keeping some moisture in between check-ups, eh?
Tough country!

You get some late and early frosts there. The Purple Maroc ought to do the trick.

Green harvests!

Late night ramblings because I can't sleep:

So theres basically a big problem with me using my debt card to purchase seeds because it's not valid for international purchases due to the "high risk of fraud". I tried talking to my bank but they refuse to enable it.

So far the solution I've come up with is to go load a pre-paid card from wally-world. Hopefully they are good for UK purchases!

Should have the seeds ordered by mid to late tomorrow, and wednesday or thursday I'll be home to show you guys my grow box I made. I'm quite proud of it :tiphat:.

Welcome back, another update here. Things are coming along very nicely and It looks like I'm pretty much ready for the season to begin. I just got the confirmation that my order of seeds has been delivered, and they are waiting for me back at home.

I was able to spend all last weekend working on some grow equipment including a cloner and a CO2 generator! Exciting stuff! Unfortunately upon another visit to my prospective spot, i discovered standing water under the snow so apparently it's a pond there in the spring... I did pick out several good spots on higher ground where I could plant in smaller patches.

Heres some pictures of what I have.

This is my growbox. It's got 6 26w cfls and is cooled by two pc fans on an adjustable output DC adapter.

One last question, does ICmag remove the EXIF data on photos you upload? Thanks guys!

There are many threads ; check the god Silverbacks thread "The Dreaded Path" the path can be bad only if you are clumsy....a good N fertilizer to sprinkle on your paths and around your containers to hide them will work also.

An OD in Duluth huh?
That should be interesting.
My buddys still had plants out in MN during the Halloween blizzard, they had to tromp through 3 feet of snow to get to them.

good luck with your od this year.MJ eradication is popular in my state just south of u.witch is a shame it provides food for the game birds in the winter.my od might get cross polinated but thats fine with me as long as it doent over power my plant and have nothing but seed.
