So I'm Trying a SCROG.....

Strain : Frosted Flake
Method: SCROG 2 ft. x 2 ft.
Medium: Coir plus EWC and a bunch of stuff kelp, blood, guano, lime, vermiculite, perlite and beneficials.
Grow method : OBBT, 3 psi. air pumped to a 6 in stone under lava rock base 4 in thick. Window screen between soil and lava. Bottom water via side tube, Helps with gnats.
I'm using a 2 ft square T5HO CFL for both veg and bud. I use 6500K veg and 2700K for flower this time I may try an actinic bulb, but I will for sure leave two of the veg bulbs in during flower.
This will be the 6th run in this box, and the first scrog for me. Yeah I know that some folks will say I should go HID like they do, but the cfl's are what I have to use due to space limits and some other issues. So the pics are of the scrog and the box as it's currently set up. Any questions I'll do my best. :smoweed:

S8D Yeah I was thinking just the one , veg until it fills the screen. I don't think it will be a problem. If the results don't meet what I hope, then what the hell I'll try something else. I was thinking about a double sided light and grow the plants on an espalier type of training.
Not sure just trying out a different grow style.

So it's been a couple of weeks since I first posted this. I've added another plant and they both under went some slight PH issues but have recovered and are spreading. Never done any type of LST or scrogging, its interesting to see the growth patterns of a horizontal grow. The other pots in the box are a returned favor, and wheat grass for the cats and trainwreck,LSD starts. Lights are on 18/6, feeding bio thrive 2-4-4 as an additive for the other wise just water organic growing. Some pics

I am not quite sure how much overall headroom you have, but you may want to flower fairly soon. If you take a look at my grow, I was told to fill the screen and then flower, well a few of my plants grew 3x their size. If I did it over, I would flower about 5 days sooner.

Those should be flipped very soon, Train stretch to fill the last of the screen, and you'll wind up with a nice level canopy with hearty buds on top of the screen,.... that just join into monsters under it!

I run HID, but I'm not gonna say you have to run em,... IMHO SCROG is perfect for growers using lower penetration lights like Floro, or LED.

Pic 1: my 1.5x1.5' 120w LED SCROG, strain is Vannilluna. (about halfway there)
Pic 2: A single Blueberry plant with a crazy lighter in the middle,.... 6.1 oz from that girl (now curing), 2x2.5' of screen for her, under 600w HPS (she wasn't alone in the screen, just took up 5sq ft ;) ) She was (As with all my HID plants) only 17" tall! :tiphat:

The flip will depend on how much your strain stretches. I just finished up a run of BOG Sour Lifesaver, and I don't think that they stretched at all. Couple of things that you might consider - I've found that if I LST the shit out of them, I can hold off on putting the screen in for quite a while. I love a scrog, but the accessibility of the plant leaves a lot to be desired. Also, I have found that if I alternate the position of adjacent plants (first pot on near side, train plant away...second plant on far side, train it toward you) that I get a better fill on the screen. The plant naturally tapers down as you move further away from the pot (/\\/), so alternating the pot locations helps take advantage of this.

Hey tr1ck, it's a 4x4 2ft deep box so there's about 2 ft of head room.

Canna, I was think about flipping at the 30 days of veg which is coming up soon.

rives, the plant on the left doesn't stretch to bad, I'm not sure about the one on the right, it's Frosted Flaked and I haven't grown it before.

Thanks for everyone input I'll post some more pics later in the week, the screen is getting close to full.

By my limited experience, It's best to train the stretch to the screen,.... Don't let it go UP much, if a new growth node can be tucked down, DO IT!!! All the way until you stop stretching and start getting eraser size bud points,.... then just let it go up.

If your screen is TOO full, and you flip, all the buds will just grow up,... which looks good on top, but still leaves a shitload of popcorn below! :(

Not to mention your top's will be much smaller and lower yielding, because they are all competing for the same amount of light, and thus growing UP instead of OUT! :D:tiphat:

Canna, Thanks for your input, as a noob scrogger in put is appreciated. It'll be a month in a week and the way the girls are doing they may have the screen filled by then. Looking forward to seeing the bud climbing to the lights.
:thank you: :smoweed:

Scog update

Scog update

I flipped the light to 12/12 starting last night. The two plants have vegged for 30 days and have filled the 2x2 screen. They have 2 ft to stretch into but the plant on the left doesn't stretch very much, I'm not sure about Frosted Flake on the right, haven't grown it before.
Here's some pics taken yesterday. Wu Chang helps me each day tend the plants.

Certainly best to train in the stretch, particularly with a sativa dominant strain. Indica's might need a little more veg for decent effect.

NiCe one!

You are concerned about streching. Myself I bend and crack em on the screen till the 2nd week after flipping.

I can see 'the sense of grower' in the air!

Let the force will be with you!

8 DYS SINCE LAST POST

8 DYS SINCE LAST POST

So the last pics were posted 8 days ago. Since then the screen has filled completely the plants went to 12/12 7 days ago and are showing pre flowers.
I feed every other day when I fill the OBBT buckets, using GH Bio Thrive bloom 2-4-4 it's vegan as I like it smooth when I hit the bong. There's enough of everything else in the soil mix, I really don't need it but seems the buds are fatter when it's used
Here's the update pics. The first two are before pulling back through today. The last one is the next crop.

Nice Scrog/Rig man,
I use the crush tecnique if i missjudge the stretch on a new strain, that really helps halt verticle stretch, just go easy if ya do & do it gently/gradually, helps minimise stress(more of a rub n crush, helps plyability). Its always easier 2nd time around cause you know whats coming, then its all timing.
Looks like its going to work beautifully for ya anyway bro.

G'Luck!
