Hurrying ripening?

Ello everyone!

Is there anyway of speeding up the ripening of flowers? Fewer light hours? weeker nutes?

Going away soon, should hopefully be ready to harvest in time but coud do with a way of speeding up the process if one exists.

Or is it just a case of time? how ever long they take, they take?

Never needed to worry about it before!!

once my timer broke in the first flowering week and i didnt notice. the plants got 24/0.
it was the last flowering before X-mas and i had calculated the time quite tight.

# I used GHE - Ripen 1 Liter
# fewer lights, in the end 8/16

well, the weed turned out very nice. all my friends loved it. my only mistake was that i didnt dried it enough :( so i had to fast dry it, but quality was still good.

Co2 enrichment till the last 2 weeks will shorten flowering time and help yield a bit
products like bushmaster, dr nodes or mega bud will also speed them up but with a small reduction in potency.

Check out a forcing solution like GHRipen, but ill recommend Botanicares version called 'Ripe', seems a better tamer product to me. These forcing solutions work really well when trying to finish multiple Phenos at the same time, which would normally finish weeks apart, handy when growing from seed. Its a forcing solution you want man, i think they contain Abscisic acid(ABA) iirc, zero nitrogen, PK & micro/trace elements. They work a treat, only use for 5-7 days before flush.

Finishing/ripening can also be influenced by increasing your dark period, but that would possibly lead to a decrease in yield & possibly airy loser buds. It is another known method but ill recommend you go with 'Ripe' from botanicare or similar.

I will say ive seen GHRipen have great but also sometimes adverse effects(Higher EC's only), ive seen it ruin the flavour of buds before now, so if you decide to use GHR, use it weak(1/3rd to 1/2 strength max) & no more than 5 days, to be safe, esp in a hydro rig. Make sure you get a good flush in & you should be stellar mate! Stuff definately works well! I will say i have not heard of the same adverse effects while GHR has been used in soil/soiless grows.

G'Luck!

Cold conditioning is the best way to speed them up. Just turn the night temps as cold as you can;leave the days in the hight 70's if you can... get em down to the low 50's or even the 40's F is ideal. During the flush use Ice water in rez or ice on the surface of the media. last three days put them in the dark and ice the roots even more. Fools the plant into senescence by simulating an early fall. Good luck,

Any potential downsides to temps that low during lights out? Stress like herming or anything?

Great question and the answer is....yes if the strain is not stable. I have not had any issues except with a diesel that was apt to hermie at the drop of a hat anyway. The key is keeping day temps high and then crankin up the ac at lights out. The colors you get from a few weeks of cold night are incredible.

Thanks for the reply..
Well i grow in a large soilbed, and i believe that the amount of root space prolongs the flowering a bit...as opposed to plants in small pots flower faster/sometimes autoflower. My last grow had night temps at 8-10c but didnt really finish faster. Resin production was really good tho, and everything went dark purp. Id love to try the ice water, but since i only water once a week, its impossible..the whole shock ripening thing is very interesting tho.

There is a way to get "more flowering days" in a shorter amount of time. Yet, it may reduce your yield some. And your strain had better be stable. I shouldn't bring it up, but I will.
You also need a good digital timer.

Stolen from OG

See if i can get it right... You are relying upon the base flowering time of 12 hours of darkness per day for flowering.
So, what we do is shorten the light period. But we keep the dark period in order to squeeze more days into a week(kind of).
