I am who I am coz I is who I is.
Just got a 50l bag of sri lanka coco free, not sure if any1 has experience with this coco or not, does it need a good wash through first, and will it any additives before used, or straight to go out of the bag?
I no some brands are straight outa the bag like cannacoco, but not sure on this sri lanka coco.

Any tips would be appreciated :D, 1st time using coco.

No idea mate, id imagine so, i got this in a package deal when buying a tent, was just trying to find out if it needs to be washed with PH water first, of if its good to go straight outta the bag.

Flush it with distilled water and check the ppm of the runoff.

Cheers rick_shaw, finally got my answer :D, and what exactly should the ppm be sitting at after the flush?

Come on, don't go rookie on me. Think it out. PPM the water, then ppm the runoff,if the difference is significant flush the salts out.

:mopper::tree::tree:Bro what I do is run tap water through it until its draining out of the bottom of the pot, I repeat this three or four times until any salts are dissolved. I then make up a quarter strength solution of nutes with superthrive at PH 5.0 to 5.5 it takes about 2 liters of the adjusted solution per pot to balance things out with the PH but you can check the run off for TDS & PH. The only other thing I do to the coco coir is add a large hand full of powdered trace elements (Yates) for about every 5x 10 inch pots. This is what works for me. It ain't rocket science. If you are a rookie stick to basics water lightly go easy on nutes, keep the air circulation going & for fu*ck sake spend money on a decent centrifugal fan, no cheap alternative has ever done a good job.

Swwet sounds good guys cheers, sounds bloody simple to get coco started, and throws out great results once all is dialed in right.

i use 4cf bricks of Down to Earth coir which is from Sri Lanka. Simple 5minute flush/sparge with cold water, and they are good to go. At $20/brick it's a great deal!

I definitely use dripclean, hygrozyme and calmag the first few waters to balance things out since i reuse my coir for each grow. I've started using Great White for enzymes, no idea if it's helping or not.
