Thanks brotherganja, it will be a good year. I am happy to have variety, but also have enough space to have at least 6 each of my major strains, and 1-3 each of the testers and light dep strains.

Some will be in the ground in my big garden (the "Upper Room")

Some in boxes on top of nicely rototilled ground in the "new garden" (cool nickname pending)

And the tester strains will be scattered around both gardens in oak wine barrels cut in half. They produce a nice 12-16oz plant consistantly, and dont take up much space, so perfect for testing new varieties. We're gonna have about a dozen of these I think. Its hard to say at this point.

The light deprivation dome will consist of two boxes, approx 10' x 5' x 12" deep. We will be putting 6 clones in each box, and supercropping to fill the area. Hoping to pull 2 pounds or more out of each box. These plants will be veging for nearly 3 months before we start tenting every day. We're gonna start on or around the first of june so we can start pulling the beginning of august. The longer strains will get pulled around the end of august.

In the Upper Room, we have many holes in the ground that range from 100-200 cu feet per. We blend our own mix of soils and amendments. No exact recipe or ratio, just nice heaping portions of horse/donkey manure, mushroom compost, forest peat, coco coir, bat guano, dolomite lime, humates, and lots of mycorrhizae. Its nitrogen packed and the plants explode as soon as they hit it. Last years crop didnt even notice the transplant, there was growth the next day as if it had never been moved. It works for us, and I guess thats whats really important.
In this garden we will have the PAK f2's, the PAK bx, Pineapple, Purple OG, and Strawberry Cough. Last year our record setter was our 14' PAK. I think we may be able to top it this year :)

The new garden is pretty nice. Its 3 level terraces, each terrace will have 5 boxes. Each box will measure approximately 6' x 4' x 12" deep. The soil under the boxes will be tilled with some horse shit, something to aerate it (prolly coir), and some dolomite and mycorrhizae. In the boxes, we will have some nice blended soil. I am thinking of using my buddy Reservation Labs recipe for these, he seems to know what he's doing when it comes to mixing dirt. Each box will provide approximately 24 cu feet on top of an additional 30-40 cu feet of dirt. Should be plenty of room to grow us some big plants. Also, as I'd like to control height in the new garden, we will be making trellis' for each box at about 5 or 6' up. Going for an extreme outdoor SCROG with this one. Its gonna be fun.
Strains we are doing in this garden are the True Blueberry, Mental Floss, and Sugar Cane Kush. Will also have many random wine barrel plants in here.

Thats the rundown on how we'll be going about things this year. I am happy to have another garden to work with, as we never seem to have enough space to have a good selection :)

Keep checking for updates and pics. I'm planning on updating regularly so stay tuned for the next one.

Later y'all

Nice run down on the layout of the gardens, momerath. :tiphat:

Not only sounds like a well planned area for growing some monster plants, but just sounds like such a beautiful place to do your thing.:ying:

Keep the updates coming.

Hey Momerath,

Everything looks and sounds great. What lights are you using to pop those beans and do some early vegging under?

I saw you want to get everything under the 400 mh but what do you prefer as far as lighting for clones?

Peace

Hey y'all!

The we had a gnarly snow here about 10 days ago the knocked out the internet tower, so I've been cut off for a bit.
Just popped back to let y'all know how things are doing and respond to everyone.

@Hiker. Yeah tell me about it haha. Prolly got another one or two left then spring will be officially here.

@amber. Much thought was put into this years gardens. This herb is going to be going to many sick people and we need to make it as profesional and efficient as possible. Plus who doesnt love growing a monster haha

@odog. We are currently using fluorescent lighting for all of our plants. Specifically, we have 4' 2-bulb T8s set up on every seedling/veg shelf (6500k color temp bulbs). For the new clones (in cloner) we have a single T5 light strip. For the mothers we are currently using T12's with mixed spectrum bulbs, and those are just temporary cuz we had them laying around. We're gonna be getting them the same T8 setup as the seedlings. Its cheap and works. Cost $35 apiec including bulbs at Lowes. I am all about saving a penny wherever I can in this horrid economy. They are working great by the way, and in the next update I'll bring y'all some pics. They are starting to kick some ass!

Yeah, Momerath, I bet you're stoked with this weather! I think pretty much all the snow's gone from our place, how 'bout you?

When you get a chance, I'd love to see how you're going to do the skeleton of your light dep. I'm thinking of doing one with 3/4" pvc, but I don't know if it'll be strong enough to hold the light blocking material.

When are you trying to plant your main holes? I'm hoping to get a hoop house up and plant in 2-3 weeks, or at least move some plants from the greenhouse to the hoop in containers. Looks like maybe some more rain, but odds are getting better against much more cold.

Howdy!

Tommythecat, welcome, glad to have you aboard!

Mapinguari, al of our snow is gone except on the tallest peaks. Still gettin chilly at night and more rain predicted for the near future.
I will definitely post pics of all construction projects. We are going to be using 1" PVC I think because its nice and heavy. The trick is to get some rebar stuck in the ground a few feet, the put your PVC over it to hold it in place. That adds a ton of support to it.
And in regards to when I am putting plants out, we will be constructing a hoophouse greenhouse in a week or two and moving all of the seedling outside. Then they go in the ground as soon as they sex, usually around mid may. The clone are gonna stay inside a little longer as I slowly bring down the light cycle so they don't flower when I move them out. Those are going directly into their places, no greenhouse.

I'm gonna try and get some pictures up later today after work is done. Things are moving along nicely. Weather has been great the past few days so I've been enjoying the sunshine and outdoors. Hopefully things will dry up a bit so I can work in the dirt and not the mud :)

Hi Momerath, nice tip on the rebar as the footing for the pvc ribs on the hoop house. Good call going with 1" pvc for the extra strength. Saving a few pennies in this case is not worth a snapped tube after everything is up and plants inside.

Looking forward to the pics when you get a chance. I know its time to spend every minute you can keeping thngs going while you have some decent weather.

:good:

Been having a hell of a time trying to upload pictures. Its a shame cuz everything is just now starting to take off. Tomorrow I will try again and get some up. In the meantime, a quick little update...

New members of the garden!

The Purple OG Kush clones have all safely arrived and are looking splendid. Got a lot of these babies for this year, it turns the most brilliant purple I have ever seen. Like, really really REALLY purple. Solid actually, no green at all except for the large sun leaves. We're gonna be making a few test crosses with this strain this season to see how the purple trait carries over. If its successful, we may have found our new tool for purpleing up just about anything*

*I know ultimateley the color is pointless when medicinal value is considered, however, we also breed for aesthetics as well as functionality here at Laughing Mountain, so some damn purple weed is in order

Also...*drum roll*
The Lambsbread will be making an appearance in the light dep tent. I had lost all hope of obtaining these clones when the man calls and says "hey, got some lambsbread cuts for you" SWEET was my reaction, and now I am quite pleased we get ALL of our originally planned strains for the season.

Oh, and we become the owners of a Bubblegum clone. Never grown it, always wanted to, so thats a plus too!

All around, good things are happening here. Can't wait to get these pictures up though.

I also could not help myself. A week ago I germinated some Super Strawberry Diesel Haze (DSD [reservoir] x SSSDH [ojd]) because damn do I miss having some strawberry d genes in my garden, and this seems like it'll beef up the yield and smell just a bit :)

So those broke the surface about 5 days ago and are working hard. I just hope they have enough time to finish outdoors in my short-season climate.

A bit of size variation in the PAK Bx, we like variation :)

Some of the clones after a transplant. Gotta stretch them legs after being in those little 3 inchers.
Large plant in the back is my SSSDH mom. I've been taking plenty of cuts for the season :)

So thats whats happening around the room as of about 5 or 6 days ago. They're starting to kick into grow mode now, so its about to get fun.

I will leave you folks with a little bit of zen from my neck of the woods :tiphat:

Hiker, thank you very much. Spring is here finally (even though it SNOWED this morning :)) and we've been working outside as much as we can. Wait til you all see what we've been doing!

Demian, mucho gusto :)

CanniDo, Greetings, isnt it awesome here? :) Glad to have you on board. Thanks for the compliments. I couldnt do it alone, it takes 3 guys to keep these gardens maintained. Not to mention the countless other invaluable individuals (trimmers, nursery ladies, old guys hahaha) to make this happen. We all appreciate your kind words! :) Its gonna be a hell of a season, we're busting it bigger than ever. Got some killer genetics lined up too, we're all very excited!

Pics from 4/11/11

Pics from 4/11/11

Everything is kicking ass in the veg room. Shelves are full beyond capacity (again) and its time to take more clones from the new (and old) moms.

I'll be short with the words and let the pictures speak for themselves (well, along with a short description:))

The first rack. Today we moved the larger ones under the MH because we were just running out of room. That gave us some room to space the plants out to allow better light to the inner growth. (this is a pre-move shot)
picture.php

The vegging light dep clones and mothers. These too were moved under the MH today to make way for the growing seedlings.
picture.php

A few clones (including a few unhappy ones)
picture.php

Here is a stellar example of the PAK. Its got the nice big leaves, great branching, and lime green foliage. Hope she's a girl :)
picture.php

A little closer...I'm loving the amount of side growth in the f2's compared to the f1's. These are great producers as they are, so the more branches, the better!
picture.php

She's lookin' good
picture.php

Got this cool idea for a picture. From left to right, we have the PAK f2's, followed by the PAK bx1, followed by the original mother of the PAK. You can see the characteristics of each generation, its pretty cool how it turned out :) (oh and before you ask, yes that PAK bx1 there is triploidal :))
picture.php

We have two older Pineapple Headband's going, of which there are two distinct phenotypes (so far). This first one is my favorite so far. It started life stinking like sweet candy (PAK-ish) but has since turned to be predominately Headband is smell. Its also not very branchy but has beautiful coloration and thick stems.
picture.php

This phenotype seems more leaning towards the PAK side. Not much smell yet but getting nice and branchy. Also a lot lighter in color than the other phenotype.
