What's new

Vertical DWC, Sour D, Blue Dream, Headband

I've ran the Sour D before and it does well, nice and stretchy. The headband is new, it's a bit short for my setup. The blue dream got a horizontal run awhile back. I've been waiting to try it vertical because it looked like it would do well, and it is so far. The buckets are somewhat adjustable, I can move them in or out by about 2 ft.

So...
Recirculating DWC, lots of air, 600hps and 400cmh, house and garden, blah blah...pics...

I'm on board  I'm trying to learn as much as I can from the vert guys.. I'm ready to flip in a few days, just rebuilding my room to 6x6. I wasn't prepared for vert but the plants are vegged so I'm diving in.
I ghettoed up 8 'Marlo Screens' and have the first bit of training done. Ok, I'm rambling.
I'll be watching this one! :blowbubbles:

that Blue Dream should do well in a Vert situation, I used to grow that all the time horizontally until it became "unpopular" here in Santa Cruz because we got a bunch of pot snob noobs that wouldn't know a great sativa high if it landed on them grrrr (don't get me started)...

Nice grow dude ROCK ON!

---Pics in this post are from a previous run for comparison--

I still haven't flipped to flower yet but will soon. I wanted them to hit the ceiling this time. They are almost as big in veg as they were when they finished last time (some different strains).

For comparison this is right before flower and then the last day of flower from a previous run.
Again, this is not this time, these pictures are from before.

Blue dream was real popular around here then everyone started growing it and it's popularity died off. It's one of my favorites and I don't see it around that much anymore. Everyone got sick of it so no one runs it anymore. I did a small run of it awhile back and loved it but lost my cutting. I've been looking for it ever since and had to pass it up several times due to the cuttings being pm and mite infested. Almost grabbed it anyways but it wasn't worth the trouble, finally found a good clean verified cut of it. I can't believe how huge the leaves on it are in vert. I just did some trimming before those pics so the largest are gone but some were probably over 12" across.

Good to see another round started GB, looks excellent, nice choice of strains too.

Thanks for stopping by. Hopefully I can get the canopy as nicely arranged as yours. I've been kind of lazy with it lately so it probably won't turn out perfectly spaced.

For some reason the plants are not quite perfectly happy. Some of them were starting to show cal and mag deficiencies. I was going to flip to flower earlier so I mixed up the house and garden nutes. They don't do that well in veg. I started these out in dynagro grow formula with calmag and silica and that combo is great for veg. The HG stuff will make for a successful run but I'm thinking next time I'll go dynagro for veg and lucas for flower. With HG they don't yellow off at the end like they normally do, even with a long flush. HG claims this is extra zinc or iron or something to keep them looking green. I like to let them flush, I usually harvest later than most, and I like to see them yellow and drop leaves at the end. HG works fine and is easy to be successful with, I just want to try lucas again as it seemed to be better in dwc.

Hey gardenbug. Looking good so far. Sour D is a perfect plant for going vert. A lil stretch is always welcome
I find that slightly overveg'd is the way to go also. Especially if you plan on doing a good amount of trimming and training.

Good Luck!

I thought I was having cal mag issues and then one of the sour d started yellowing and spotting, which I've learned is usually root problems. I checked and have some root rot starting.

My setup that keeps the water level topped off failed. I run 1/4 line from the main water supply to an elevated reservoir about 3ft off the ground. It is filled by a float valve. From there 1/4 line goes to the control bucket, another control bucket for veg setup, and an unused line with a valve so I can have water wherever I need it. I used that line to fill up a cloner. Somehow air or something got into the lines and the pressure wasn't enough to keep water flowing once the control bucket needed it. The water level dropped to half what it should be in about a day before I noticed it. Hopefully I can figure out why, not really sure. I will probably redo it to be a pressurized line instead of gravity fed to the control bucket. I just like having only low pressure lines running around as leaks would not shoot water all over.

I run h202 and gave them a good dose, will be flushing a few times with water. Water temps never went over 67 that I know of, most of the time at 64.
I also think I didn't design this setup with enough water flow. Supply lines are 1/4 and drains are 3/4. I might try to redo it with a 1/2 supply line, anyone know if the 3/4 drain should be enough to handle it? Pump is a 1200gph but has a 1/4 line open in the control bucket to lower the pressure. These plants are just too big and have been in water too long I think. I haven't tried running this big in this setup before. So advice to anyone else, lots of air, lots of flow.
Only 1 plant is showing damage but the others roots show slight rot.
Any suggestions besides the h202 and water flush to help with this?
Wish I had caught it a bit earlier, but it's not too bad yet. Unfortunately I'm about 5 days into flower and they have a lot of time left in the buckets. I like to sort out any issues before flipping, but too late now.
Will grab some pics when I can.

I've got about another week of stretch to go too.
They are all looking pretty healthy.
The sour d that was having trouble is doing alright. It's the one with a few yellow leaves. For some reason some of it's roots went bad. I've upped the h202 dose and raised the water level a bit. Trying to figure out how to up my water flow but that may have to wait till next time. I'm at 1/4" feed and 3/4" drains right now, if I go to 1/2" feed I'm worried it might be too much for the drains. I will be adding another air stone to the buckets though. These ones are just too big for this setup. Not sure why it's roots weren't happy, maybe not changing my solution often enough. DWC is just unpredictable sometimes. I'm going to have to lengthen/shorten some of my plumbing to expand the circle a bit, some of them are only 6" from the bulbs. It's already adjustable in or out by about 2ft on most of them, but there's 2 of them with only about 6" adjustable due to the layout of the plumbing.

Did a ton of pruning and defoliating this time. Most was done between 20-25 days. They are getting kind of big and hard to manage. I still haven't trimmed out the insides yet as I didn't want to cause too much stress. When I trim I throw it into a 5 gal bucket, I've got 3 of them stuffed full so far. Trimmed them into kind of a square shape, they looked like hedges for a few days until they filled back in a little.

Last pic is of ones I transferred from dwc to coco. Looks like only 1 is having real trouble, but will probably still make it.

Most of it so far is large fans and buds that are just developing, so not much as far as trichomes go yet. I remove fans that are in the way and the tiny twig like off shoot branches that will never develop into anything good. If it's a decent sized bud I leave it there even if it isn't getting direct light and won't become all that dense. I strip all the lower shoots off and just leave the few bigger end buds on those ones. At harvest time they are fluffy and not worth keeping but make excellent hash. I'll be doing some more pruning towards the end, that stuff I usually throw out as well, but I should probably be making hash from it. Anything trimmed off after about 40 days or so would probably be worth turning to hash.
