Looks nice, would you mind going over that technique you mentioned in your first post, or linking to it? Just started a small hydro setup with my clones and I'm struggling to learn the nuances of hydro... Ladies don't like me very much right now :(

Hey WoodElephant,
Sorry dude noones been responding to your thread. Your grow looks good though.

Just wanted to let you know about smoking those fan leaves. I've got a buzz off of the sugar coated ones before, but that's at harvest time. From my experience, if you pick any buds before 6-7 weeks, they won't be very potent and they are usually really harsh when you smoke them. Try to stick it out through those dry times man, I feel your pain!

Again, your grow looks good and healthy. You're definitely off to a good start from the looks of your pictures. Don't sweat it that people aren't stopping by, these new grower forums are new and I don't think people are regularly checking them. If you have any specific questions, ask them in the "want to ask the old farts a question" thread. Otherwise, keep doing what your doing.

If anything this is just a journal to check on when you do your next grow.

GOOD LUCK

Thanks for stopping by, and the input on the leaves! I gave em a go...sort of maybe felt a buzz and decided it's best just to wait :). If nothing else, my tolerance will be gone and that first draw is going to knock me flat on my ass!

Darth--shit happens to the best of us :). The first hydro set-up I tried leaked ALL OVER the place...had to scrap the damn thing after a fair investment.
As for the eye candy...I really need to get a hold of a nice digital, but just haven't had the time. Hopefully I can snag my lady's. And once they start showing their true colors, you can expect some nice bud-porn:jump:

Mr. Dent! Thanks for stopping in again, and for the encouraging words! :) Still no sugar, but they've only been on 12/12 for a few days. You can expect a LOT more pictures once I start seeing trichs!

tonsoffuns419--thanks for dropping in:wave:! I hope the show doesn't disappoint :)

I'm thinking you're asking about the Lucas 2.0? Here's the link that I got most of my stuff from. But to summarize:

Start out using a low dose of the Lucas ratio and then just listen to your plants. If, after a day or two, the PPM goes up, that means they're drinking more than they're eating, so you just want to add water and get your PPM slightly lower than it was before. If, on the other hand, the PPM goes down, they're eating more than they're drinking, so you want to add water AND nutrients, raising the PPM above where it was. There are a couple equations in that thread, but I've just been adding a small amount of nutrient at a time (when needed) in the proper ratio.

The idea is just to listen to what your plants want, and since you're adding the nutrients at approximately the ratio they want, you don't have to worry about flushing (one of the BIG draws to me).

Keep in mind though, that this is my first grow, so this is just my informed take on the system. If you have the time, there's some good discussion in that thread.

I hope I answered your question...if not, let me know and I'll try again :) or I'm sure one of these fine people can point you in the right direction :tiphat:

Good luck with the hydro, I hope it starts treating you and your ladies right!

Not a whole lot to update, just been trying to keep myself and the ladies warm during Snow-mageddon :freezing:

I do have some pictures that I took during my ladies evening. Looking pretty good, and I'm pretty sure I saw some fine crystals on several leaves. There is some yellowing on lower fan leaves, so I added some water sans nutrients. Going to check them pretty soon to see how they liked that nutrient level. But without further ado, the stars of the show!

The gal in the front right, and a close up of one of her leaves. The same thing is happening on the other two larger plants.

The lady in the front left. Never got as branchy as the other two...pretty sure she's my original surviving Cream Caramel, though if anyone has experience with this strain and can add some input, I'd be very grateful!

Here's my favorite lady tucked away in the back left of the tent

And finally the not so small lady who got a bit of a late start

Thanks for stopping by!

May your gardens prosper and may the LEOs stay away!

Also, my heart and thought go out to those in Egypt or with family in Egypt. Whether you're Egyptian or not, we are all humans, and I wish I could stand by my brothers and sisters in solidarity. :2cents:

...I'll get off my soap box now:shucks:

Buenos dias folks!

Nothing major to update. One of the buckets wasn't returning water well and overflowed a bit--thank God for the spill tray in the Secret Jardin :wahey:
I got my air pump and sorta snaked it out, and everything is looking much nicer now.

I also added a humidifier...just seemed awfully dry in there. Finally, I flipped the light up to 600W and set it a little over 2 feet above the girls. They seemed to enjoy it, and I might try lowering the light just a tad to see if I can't find a nice optimal range.

But anywho, here's some pictures. I tried to get some close ups, but it's with my iPhone, so they're not great pictures, but here they are anyway.

Pictures of the front left lady:

And here is the front right gal:

The hefty lady in the back left:

And last but not least, the little 'un in the back right:

And just for completeness sake, here's a picture of the whole garden:

As always, any questions/comments are welcome and much appreciated!

May your gardens prosper and may the LEOs stay away!

Peace

Hello all!

Hope you haven't missed me or my ladies too much. Not too much to report...they've been growing up, and I finally got around to taking and posting pictures.

I did leave the fan off during the day to let the humidity build up in the tent...they loved it, but could definitely smell them when I walked in!

But anywho, here's my girls.

As always, comments/suggestions welcomed and appreciated!

Also...I don't know how many others out there were following the Egyptian protest, but....wow. 11-02-2011 is a day to remembered by all free people, and to serve as a beacon of hope for those who dream of freedom.

Plants are looking nice WoodElephant!

Thanks for the kind words Romulus!

It's been a while, but here are some shots of the ladies. They've gone into flower and really took to it :). The Blueberry Gum girls are really making themselves known with a really sweet smell from the bud sites. The Cream Caramel's don't seem to be flowering quite as fast and furious, but they're coming along. I'm trimming leaves that cover any bud sites and pretty much just letting them take care of themselves.

Here are some pictures of the gals, hope you all enjoy!

I have to say, my mouth is starting to water when I work with them! :)

You have a great setup and those plants look like they are enjoying themselves. I run about the same thing you've got going, but I grow in soil. DR100 tent, 600w light, 4" Vortex fan with CAN 2600 filter.

Keep up the good work,

-Funk

Very inspiring, bro! I just ordered a 150w/250w ballast and DR60, so hopefully it'll turn out as nice as yours has so far, just a bit down-sized.

Please look into adjusting your white balance ;) Plants look great tho.

Have you considered a SCROG? I am going to be trying something similar, so I'm quite curious as to how this goes, and anything you run into (climate, etc).

Thanks for the kind words, Funk! I looked at some of your pictures, and wow, quite tasty looking :). I've been thinking about going to soil at some point, how do you run it? I think if I do go soil, it'll be organic with home-made compost.

looking good there!

Thanks bro, I really appreciate you stopping in with the kindness :)

Are you planning on running hydro as well? Good luck with it however you choose to go! I love that tent, it's pretty awesome to house your little beauties. Glad I could be of inspiration :), and thanks, I think, for the rep? (I can't figure out how to to tell who it's from...)

I've just been using pictures taken by my iPhone so far...I might try to tinker with the balance in the photo-editing application on my computer, though! Thanks for the compliment to my ladies :)

I have been thinking about a SCROG, but havent' mapped out exactly how to do it yet...I'm in school and finding time to go to the hardware store on top of regular garden chores gets a bit dicey.

The only big climate things I've run into is I thought they were getting a bit dry when we had that "Snowmageddon" across the midwest, so I added a humidifier and have been running that in the tent.
Not too long after flipping to flowering light cycle, my water got a LOT harder, but they haven't seemed to mind too much. I did let my pH get a bit low as well, but I added some untreated water and that brought it right back up. But those two are just kinda weird things that you probably won't run into.

Let me know when you get your set up going, I'd love to follow along. And I'll post any major changes with my ladies, of course!

Thanks everyone for stopping by and the kind words!

So time for an update! Not too much has been happening with my girls. I've been trimming off leaves if they cover a budsite, but trying to restrain myself from trimming too much...I'm honestly not sure if I hit the stretch already and it just wasn't much or if I'm getting into it now. I had heard that it wasn't such a great idea to trim too much during the stretch as that's when you get most of your root mass that will support the plant through the rest of flowering?

Anywho, here's some pictures of the girls. They're getting frosty and smelly. Some days I'll leave the extraction fan off so they can build up a little humidity in there (seem to love it) and when I get home you can definitely smell a bit of skunk. But when I get up there to smell the plants themselves, the two up front smell sweet, sweet, sweet like sugary bubble gum and the back (big) one smells sweet, but a little milder. Pretty sure I got mixed up and the two up front are the blueberry gums, while the two in back are the cream caramel. This is based off smell and the flowering patterns.

Sorry for rambling, I got my hands on some KB and partook before posting! Puff-puff-pass hombre

SORRY! I need to figure out how to load more pictures before I can post any. Apparently I've just about gone past my limit for adding pictures.

Any suggestions on how to load pictures online and then post them here?

Yes I plan on running a DWC system, either one large tote or 2 smaller ones. Preferably two smaller ones so I can run plants at different stages and have a staggered harvest. It all depends on what I can get to fit in the tent. Looking forward to seeing your ladies again!

Hello everybody, sorry for the terrible delay in updating. I've been swamped and haven't gotten a chance to post. The ladies did well, though there was some discoloration on the leaves the last couple weeks or so. I had to do an emergency chop earlier than I wanted, but most of the trichs looked at least milky under the trusty trichoscope (though I think I'd rather get a jeweler's loop if it does the job without the trouble of having to get it perfectly in focus on an effing plant).

Here are pics of the dry box I threw together earlier today (I already had the chest, but added two 80 mm computer fans in-line and pulling air through 3 layers of carbon filter material I picked up from Wal Mart. I got the idea from another thread, I'll post the link if anyone is interested. I'll post later on dry weight.

Thanks for tagging along. I've got some ideas for my next grow, and I think it should be, pardon my language, pretty fucking good. I learned a lot from this grow, and I'm going to get a RO water filter system (HIGHLY recommend) so that should take care of my big water issues. I dunno if I should post all the ideas for my next grow on this thread or start another one in another forum. Any thoughts? I don't have time now, but I'll at least post a link here if I start a new thread.

I just smoked some quick dried Blueberry Gum from G13 (Bubbleberry as I like to call it, unless there is an actual Bubbleberry out there), fresh from my own garden  and as a result I'm rambling. Cheers everyone!

EDIT: Sorry everyone, I was all high and forgot to add the stupid pictures! Here they are

Hey there hippy, do you mean run two different stages as in veg and flower or different stages of flowering? Are you going to be vegging out of the tent?
Let me know when you get started on your project so I can follow and if you'd like, offer my humble advice. Good luck!

Alrighty, so I mentioned some upgrades in my system, and I figure I'll just go ahead and jot them down here. Push come to shove, I can copy this and paste it somewhere else.

Immediate upgrades, as mentioned, include buying a walter filtration system to get the water to 0 PPM. I'm going to try to run two strains again, probably the same two. So, I'm going to have the two strains lined up front and back and have each hooked to it's own reservoir. This reservoir will pump water into a mini-fridge with holes in the side to allow the water to flow into the fridge, through a counter-current heat exchange and from there into the buckets via misters.

As far as the tent, I'm going to cut holes in the bottom of the water tray and the tent bottom itself. I'll seal the buckets to the water tray with Gorilla Tape (amazing shit), and air proof(ish) the floor and water tray with tight velcro with weather sealing immediately on either side. I want to do this to allow for greater vertical height, and more freedom with how high the light hangs. Speaking of the light, I'll be ditching the current air hood and going with 6" cool tube with a 6" inline fan pushing 400 CFM of air across it.

The tent will be vented with a 6" inline fan pulling 400 CFM of air out, through ducting intertwined through the buckets with cool water and into the intake ducts at the bottom of the tent. I'm going to add several 2-litre bottle with sugar water and yeast and air tubing it up and over the plants to keep CO2 up. I'll also be in the tent fairly often, and they're never completely air tight, so I'm not too worried about CO2 levels getting too low. In the future I''ll either get tanks or a CO2 generator with controller.

The tent will be sitting on a home-made frame above the floor with dampers under the feet. The buckets will be on some sort of padding, completely on a level with the reservoir and with no impediment between. In the last grow, I cut the drain holes too low and they had to go up to go out the 6" ducting tube port on the sides of the tent.

I'll be using the Lucas Formula 2.0 again, but I'll be supplementing with foliar spraying of Jasmonic acid. I'll start once there's a fair few set of fans, before my first defoliation. I'll probably follow every 2-3 weeks after.

The grow method will be defoliation much more like in the original thread. Once the plant has 3-4 true nodes, i'll pluck and let them branch out. I'll probably just pluck as I go so as to avoid any major shock at any one time. I'll LST to keep it bushy, but I'll also be letting them grow out a bit more.

There's going to be a humidifier, possibly small space heater in the winter and I'll be ditching my current fans in favor of those slick black fans from Vornado and Honeywell that move a lot of air really quietly. I'll rig two at the top of the tent to move air around and create a breeze.

My dream is to someday run a perpetual with the new Secret Jardin DR90T, which has a clone/seedling chamber on top and vegging chamber in the bottom. I'd rig the buckets in the bottom the same as I plan for my current tent. I'll move the 600 W light over there and set it a good height above the plants. Then in the flowering chamber I'll have two 400W lights in 6" cool tubes with either a 6" or 8" inline fan pushing air through a splitter across both lights. The lights will be on separate pulleys so that I can have it as close above the two plants in whatever stage it's above. Whichever light is lower will have it's reflector cocked to the side to get more light on the side of the plants that are further along in flowering. The light above the plants further along, will of course be pointed straight down. As mentioned, I'll be adding CO2 at some point.

I really want to be able to do the perpetual grow style to allow me to sample a variety of strains and perhaps do some breeding.

Sorry for the long post, but I thought some of the ideas were pretty good and worth sharing. Let me know what you all think, good, bad and otherwise!

Peace!
