heres an older article i read about the combination of co2 & o2 creating a near death experience. before NDE was even a term...

http://www.dailypaul.com/158305/mixture-of-co2-and-o2-triggers-transformative-near-death-experiences

In the late 1950s, a group of prestigious physicians at Northwestern University School of Medicine did a study unprecendented in medical history. They administered to patients a potentially fatal combination of carbon dioxide gas. They used this to successfully treat a wide variety of psychiatric and even physical illnesses such as peptic ulcers. They were convinced that they would revolutionize psychiatry; patients would be cured of even the most troubling psychiatric disorders with only 2-3 in office treatments with the gas!

The patients received brief treatments, during which time they lost consciousness, had a vivid sense of nearly dying, and even a life review. They received complete pre- and post-treatment evaluations including extensive psychiatric and psychological profiles. Their resultant transformation was carefully compared to a control group of patients who breathed the harmless gas nitrous oxide (laughing gas).

Not sure how close to death I came, but last summer I had an "episode" that left a lasting impression on me.

I was dragging a very large planter full of soil backwards with no shoes on when I accidently stepped into an old pine stump hole. Now as some of you know when a pine stump rots away it leaves a sharp stump in the hole, ...the top of this stump impaled the sole of my foot right in the arch. I had to physically pull my foot off the stump.

After hopping to the back door I made it into the house to attend to my wound. I got the bleeding stopped without any problem and headed into the living room to find my spouse....
I am one of those big squemish guys who cant stand the sight of human blood and evidently I go into shock fairly easily. I was on the couch relating the details of my accident to my wife when I felt in my body that the connection between my brain and my lungs became DISCONNECTED! I remember a haze coming over my vision and realizing I was not breathing. I did not get upset. I was not really alarmed although I understood the seriousness of the situation. I kept thinking "you really need to breathe" and just as quickly as I went out, I came out of it.

My wife was standing there with the phone in her hand calling for help completely freaking out. She said I just fell back, eyes rolling and started gasping for air. I just remember feeling very calm about the whole thing.

I thought about that incident for weeks trying to remember as much as possible about how it felt to be independent of the body. I never lost conciousness but I was not in control of my body.

Like some of you already said, I dont fear death, but neither do I welcome it. I am perfectly content to live this life as long as the dealer keeps giving me cards to play.
...in the meantime I am stiltokin.

I'm not Jewish, but recently I learned that they don't believe in an Afterlife. You're here. You're gone. That's it.

There's no magic come back later on. Enjoy it while it lasts.

That's how they see it, at least, as far as I understand it.

I believe these religions that don't "believe" in afterlife are manipulated by humans throughout history to distort in their favor, holding back the fact that YOU are divine.

high fambly!

i was 14 or 15, visiting my ole country, and hooking up with friends from elementery school. we had a nice party, and drank like crazy... at some point someone challanged me to a vodka contest... i drank half - 3/4 of a vodka bottle in 10mins or so... party was goin on cool and all, till i passed out, half hour later...

i was brought to a park bench and left there with a girlfriend... police showed up and brought me to the ambulance after they tried waking me up and i replied with peer cursing and threats... the ambulance claimed there is nothing they can do (post war/embargo era -> no real supply of pharmaceuticals and equipment), and the nearest hospital was to far...

so they put me in an ambulance car and drove me to grandmas place... she and my sister put me on a bed and tried to warm me up with blankets and heated bricks n stuff, but didn't work... at some point i started floatin over my body, and was pulled up... could see my dead body, and my sis n grandma weeping next to the bed. was real fuqed up sight, and somehow the realization hit me i just died... i mean WTF? at 15 dying of alcohol overdose, this shit can't be it... the more i got pulled up the more i did regret what i did, and thought to my self this shit can't be it... and if i only had one more chance.... and BOOOOM, i was floating back into my body... woke up for couple of seconds, and passed out again... woke up next day, feeling stranger then, strange and did really knew what to think of that experience... but from that day on, i know there is a soul, and sort of afterlife... shit was to real, for a drug induced "dream"...

guess i was REAL lucky that night, or i got a 2nd chance :)

I've often thought that getting high is our subconscious or spirit trying to get us there while on earth. I've never had a near death experience but I've had experiences I don't want to go into detail that was not run of the mill everyday stuff. Sorry for that. But there is a unifying message of peace you will hear. So have peace with that my friend.

The cops almost snuffed me out when i was a teenager... a case of mistaken identity. Swat officers, swarm of police cars, helicopter, the whole shabang. After words one cop told me how lucky i was to not have moved my hands from my sweater or else he would have shot me.CRAZY DAY.

What a stupid cop.

Doesn't he know bullets go through sweaters?
