i just fucked up majorly .

i took the fan out my old pc and tried to wire it to a cord .

when i plugged it up the fan let of a big spark and it made that pop sound .

idk if it was to much power or what .

here is a pic . ( i had electrical tape on the exposed wires when i tried it )

if it was to much power then how do i get it to work then , all i have are those 120v outlets

it scared the shit out of me when it popped lol .

i might just have to buy a small 6'' table fan and just take the brackets of it lol .

There should be a voltage rating on the fan somewhere.

You just need a DC converter with the same rating, and another fan.

yea i see it , ( 12v )

do they sell DC converters at hardware stores like lowes or something ?

or do i need to go to a computer store ?

just buy a 12v adaptor like what is feeding your broadband modem or your router

Radio shack or walmart sell them they also sell pc fans

You may already have one.

Check old plugs for video game systems or like Dog said cellphone chargers...

Otherwise Radio Shack will have some.

And please use wire nuts and tape this time! :D

It's nothing to joke about kid. I had a house burn down, and I can tell you it's no laughing matter. Don't go playing around with shit you don't understand, you could get yourself killed, or worse, someone else.

two wires the collored one is useualy the + side black being - to get your rotation rite.

But most likely the fan is toast try another. Read the lable first to se what votage it is. You can use a lower V supply but not HIGHER than what it calls for.

You don't need a voltage converter. If you go to Radio Shack you'll see that some of their axial fans are 12 volt and some of them are 120 volt. You need a 120 volt. Use wire nuts on your splice and then tape over that.

No coating OH I get it Two wires incased in black. Feel the caseing one should have ridges that will be +. But on DC the fan will run both ways. Just swich for the direction you want.

gray strips should be + Red will be + If there is more than two on fan,it is a mutipl speed fan. each color will be a diff speed. Black is -

Just play around with it. 12v dc is safe (no major shocking)
