Thinking about going vert, trying to figure out the number of lights I would want to put in a 6'wide by 12' long room? The room is approx 6 feet in height.. How many bulbs would be optimum for this size of a room?

I like DHF's idea but I also like the idea of 16 x 400W CMH
two levels of 8 staggered back and forth
_-_-_-_- for the bottom level
-_-_-_-_ for the top level :D

I was thinking of running 5-6k, but I am kind of worried that it will be too much light for that space.. Wont be the most efficient set up

Sorry, I forgot to mention I would flip them staggered style so only half would be on at any one time but they'd flip every two hours, running 6400W would be pretty crazy lol :D

I also live where it stays in the 90-110 range during summer, so I would have to bu running them in cool tubes, not the most efficient set up out there, but no way I could run bare bulb without a ridiculous AC running 24/7.

i have a 7x12 room that is acually 6x12 when im not in there working and i run 5x750w lamps and if i would use 1k lamps i would have 4 or 3 if the ends of your vertical or stadium have plants as well..

canadiancracker had a 6x8 stadium with 2 1k hps and was hitting 4# of nice quality..
he said something about 5.5feet by 5.5 feet for single or stacked lamps. and about 4 feet in between side by side lamps in his stadiums..

other people on here run 4 1ks hps in 12feet, others run 4 1k mh (northern farmer)
its all about what works for you.. check out the many different thread and lighting info isnt hard to find..

good luck on the new space..

Don't have a room yet. Which is good because I can choose a room (trailer) to my liking:) I've run horizontal before with a lot of success, but I've been looking at vert for a while now.

As of right now my plan is most likely to purchase an enclosed trailer to park in a garage. I figure the 2-3k it will cost for the trailer will be more than made up for by the fact that everything is neatly concealed and easily hideable if necessary inside of a trailer "for my quads".. Also if I ever decide to move in the future there is minimal breakdown involved..

I would run a vertical scrog against both long walls and the back wall. Recirculating top drip, with probably two levels, each one about 3 feet tall..

The entire trailer would be insulated (gotta figure out how/with what on that still) and I would frame out a back wall at the back of the trailer. So that when you open the barn doors there is a wall with a door..

Install a window banger in the window of the garage like you would normally do, but I would vent the cool air into the trailer through the framed up back wall. That way the ac is venting outside and I don't have to worry about it heating up my garage.

The whole thing would be sealed with CO2. Plan on cutting a hole in the bottom of the trailer so and have a 6-8" fan sitting under the trailer (hole will be sealed up to keep room fully sealed) blowing into ducting that I will customize to cool all 5-6 lights which will be in cool tubes (thank you shitty summers), with a similar setup at the top allowing me to vent it out of the top of the trailer and out of a window.

The main problem I am trying to figure out right now is that I refuse to do anything with electricity because that is just asking for something to go wrong. With 6k I would need a 100 amp panel correct? What could I tell an electrician I needed a 100 amp panel for? I feel like that might be a hard sell.

Was also considering this to run my lights, but was not completely sure how it works.. And it only says 50 amps? How can it say it can run 8k off 50 amps? http://htgsupply.com/Product-Sentinel-HPH-8-High-Power-HID-Controller.asp

My other concern is whether 6' is wide enough to do what I want to do. Gotta figure that insulating will take about a foot off of that so really I'm only working with 5 feet. Which leaves me about 2.5 feet on each side from the bulb.. And I'm going to need around 8" of that for the pots to sit... I'm thinking that even 7' wide would be pushing it, and that 6' might not work.

Appreciate any help..

sounds like a sweet set up I have been thinking of doing the same thing. From the sound of it a 6' x 16' would be best that way you have 4' in the back to play with. Might even be enough room to mount a air conditioner in your partition wall and put all of your ballasts, vents and fans in the airlock. you should do 3 stacks of 2 600's in your cooltubes to give 50 watts per foot. Mount a 75 amp sub panel in your airlock, your lights if wired 240 v should only pull 15 amps allow another 15amps for air conditioner and another 10 amps for accessories and have amps to spare As far as insulation I would use some 1 1/2" r max foam insulation which come in 4' x 8' sheets so you don't lose much space then tape off the seams and cover that in reflectix, that will give you a good tight room.

So for vertical, generally 50 watts a square foot is good? Would you suggest same for horizontal? Around 50w /sq ft for horizontal is what I've heard recommended sometimes but was wondering if anything significantly different (less/more) is better for vertical. (without stacked lighting or anything really tall like that)
