Growing with an LED light

Has anyone heard that you shouldnt use a growing soil with peat-moss, if you are using an LED? I talked to someone @ Prosource, where I bought my LEDs, & thats what they said. I guess it causes a nutrient lockout. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this?

That's because peat shines brighter than LED.:D Just kidding. Never heard that peat and LED don't mix. I bet peat is in 99% of bagged, soil less mixes. That leaves you hydro or coco. Check with the rep again and see if they venture a reason you can't use peat.

That's baloney lol. you cant not use Peat moss only that goes for anything your growing. Peat is just one component of your soil-less mix. Most if not all have sphagnum pet moss in it.

Yeah, I actually talked to the owner of the company. He told me a mix I could use, but that too has peat-moss in it, only its sphagnum peat-moss(Sunshine Mix #4, I think). I will have to call him again today, & ask him some more. He said that growing with an LED is alittle different than an HPS. I guess they (Prosource) is supposed to be coming up with a growers guide that will be up on the website soon.
Prosource does a 90 day no risk trial, & my friend is going to be returning his because he wasnt satisfied with his results. The owner of the company was trying to figure out why it wasnt working as well as it should, so he asked if the soil we are using has peat-moss in it, which will lockout the nutrients.
Havent really seen too much of an issue with my garden, but it would be nice to see if it makes a difference. I am now using an HPS light system as well, in combination with my LED's. Thanks for the input!

My only possible concern with using peat is that it does break down acidic as it stays wet/moist over time. With LED, you won't be watering as much, and the peat will be "sitting there" moist, and truly flushing can be perilous without the heat of "usual" lights drawing up all the water.

I'd suppose some dolomite, or even eggshells (better to me), into the mix would take care of the acidity.

Slower, but mo' betta.

Slower, but mo' betta.

Mr. Mike nailed it.

As a general rule;
Slower growth requires more drainage.
And less water.

Led grown plants are very easy to drown.
(well, suffocate, actually).

Roots will grow jus' fine, in aerated water.

It's stagnant water that kills them.

Using straight coco under leds can be tricky, so I switched to Sunshine mix #4.
It does drain better and breathes quite well.

Water less often and use freshly aerated water, and peat won't be an issue.

Jus' my 2 hard earned cents.

Sounds to me like he is suggesting a more expensive medium. $$$

right, the internet has made crappy salesmen obsolete as far a I'm concerned, If a salesman suggests some bullshit with peat moss in it after telling me that I don't want to use peat moss, I'm thinking this guy is just talking out of his ass trying to sell something.

guess thats why they come here and make shit up, maybe peat moss is the problem, maybe it's the led lights, but that sounds weird to me.

I'll check the internet, and if they are full of shit, I won't go back to that store or I'll just do my own research and tell him/her to go bother somebody else with their nonsense. But beware the internet nonsense too
