Why I like Rapid Rooters. (everyone can do it!)

Because all one has to do is take the cutting and stick it in the RR.

Basically everyone can do it.

It is KISS! (K
eep It Stupid Simple)

Unlike with using a Aerocloner style rooter you don't have to deal with fluctuating PH, no slime build up, no leaks, no worry about power outages and using RR's is CHEEEEEAP!

Set and forget basically.

Not to mention easy planting, just make a little hole in to the medium and pop in the RR with the rooted cutting.
Unlike with rooted Aerocloner style cuttings where you have to be VERY careful not to damage the roots and sometimes have a transplanting shock as well.

I agree,

rapid rooters can be easy.. but isn't every method easy?

the thing I think you forgot to mention to rapid rooter converts, is that they will dry out, and you need to re-water them to keep them moist through-out the cloning.. other then that rapid rooters to me are a cheap investment for cloning

nice pics, showing people what can be done with the rooters.

I too have great success cloning with rapid rooters using Olivia's cloning gel and a Mondi 7" mini greenhouse. I just spray the inside of the dome once a day and keep the rooters slightly damp, not soaking wet. I usually just fill a small bowl of distilled water and give them a quick dip every other day. I get roots in seven to ten days max.

I've been getting 100% results setting them on a capillary mat. Keeps the RR at a perfect moisture level. I dome for 24 hours and them leave them alone, no misting or anything. Gotta give credit to Mosca on the mat trick

Although he uses the coco pucks, I use the RR's with 100% success.

RR are great for cloning and for seeds, I used the RR's for a long time. They are great for hydro and soil mixes, nothing to fall apart in hydro and the roots are pretty well established if your planting into a soil mix that has a lot of nutrients. If using all coco I found that cloning straight into a 3" container of coco was even easier. With seeds I would let the seed soak overnight then plant into the RR, as soon as the taproot started showing I would plant them in coco that I charged with 1/4 strength chem nutes or half strength organic nutes. Root riot plugs look pretty good as well, I've never tried them though.

I spray mine for the first few days keep under a hood and that's about it. Last time I got 49 of 50 cuttings not bad.

Rapid rooters have been a godsend for me when popping beans! I'll try them for cloning now, as I'll be needing to buy a bag for my new bean purchase, and only need 10 out of the 50... :D

I must be a retard, I get about 50% success rate with RR's. I think maybe my cloning powder is junk, when I do get roots they they are weak and crappy.

I also dont like RR's because when clones are rooted in them then planted and veg'd they never break down and they make the base of the plants weak. The biggest strongest roots at the base get wrapped in RR and never come in direct contact with the soil.

I would have agreed 100% until recently. I used RR or something similar with great success until recently. Having tons of trouble but my last batch seems to be rooting so I think I found the solution.

Usually use a dome and air out 2-3 times. My last batch I started leaving the dome off as long as possible, several hours and/or overnight unless they look wilted. Also got the room temp to high 70's.

But I don't think its a set it and forget method

Yes, you want to soak them first.
I usually tear off a small piece and partially cover the hole with it.
Don't know if I need to, but it works.

I love rapid rooters. I soak them in ph'd water mixed with cloning gel, soak the clone tip in gel and stick on a heating mat. I mist and let them breathe daily and get roots consistantly in 4-5 days.

I love rapid rooters too especially since I started putting an inch of perilite in the bottom of the flat and placing the rooters on top overwatering hasnt been a problem.I been trying advanced jiffey cubes and they work just as well if not better fyi !!

my one gripe with RR is that they seem to dry out quicker than rockwool. ive done side by sides and thats just my experiance.

but i keep a pack of RR available because its perfect for seed germination. cut off a chunk of rapid rooter, make a little seed pocket, put that chunk into the soil or coco....

it creates a nice "foundation" for the seedling and helps cut down on seedling movement when watering. sometimes i water a seedling and it collapses and turns sideways, the rapid rooter seed pocket solved that..

i also layer perlite at the bottom of the tray to help stabilize humidity levels and give emerging roots something to cling too..it has small amounts of nitrogen so gives a little food too.

Naw man why would you be a 'tard b'cause of that?

1st of all the results of how well the plant clones can very much be strain dependent.

2nd I don't recommend using cloning powder.
Powder naturally comes dry so try using clonex gel instead. The gel will also aid in sealing the cutting wound
(much better than the powder & avoiding embolism in the stem).

Once you got strong roots the non breaking down RR won't be an issue anymore.
Mine don't break down, neither and my plants are 36" + with top heavy monster buds developing (check the grow link below for that). ;)

When you plant the RR with the rooted clone...make that hole deeper than the RR is tall.
If you got no branches above the RR make sure to bury that section of your cutting, it WILL develop roots as well and stabilize the plant even more.
