Dual hose portanle a/c . leaking smell

Anyone have any advice on cutting down smell coming from a portable a/c? It's a dual hose haier (sp) . Itr has a small air intake above the hose on the back of the unit. I imagine this is where the smell is getting in. I was thinging to box it off , and duct it to an area with clean air? Think that'd do it , or have better ideas?

dual hose portables will always leak smell unless you place a filter on the hot air exhaust. The lines are not isolated from eachother, its inevitable.

either get a window banger and box it if necessary or get a filter for the hot air exhaust. Since the smell is probably minimal, you could consider one of those organic air carbon filters that look like a car intake.

Wouldnt the humidity kill the carbon? Car intake carbon filter? Using an one block , but make it smell even more suspicious ...
Thanks

hello that small intake with a filter is where the hot air must be sucked into the unit. An AC system absorbs heat into the refrigerant and the heat is released into the air (hot exhaust air) during the phase change of the refrigerant. So if you block the filtered intake above the hoses, you are essentially choking off the ac.

what you want to do is build a large sealed box where both your hoses plumb into. You need to scrub and vent this hot stinky air.

or you can toss your inefficient, stinky AC for a true sealed room setup, using a ductless or mini split, water cooling, or a full air to air split.

Thanks. I wanna toss it for a mini split , just no coin atm... Looking for an easy fix , to get me by a few months . The mini split I want is 3k+ !! May just have to get a window banger and box her up for this summer . If boxed up properly , a window unit leaks no funk?

Put this on the backside of the unit with a fan to pull the heat through. They work ok that way. Put it in front of the compressor for better results. I'd still suggest putting a fan on the backside though since the filter will restrict the flow.

I'm no sort of expert at all. But dealing w/ sort of the same thing. I am gonna scrub the AC exhaust thru a 6'' or 8'' scrubber with a booster fan to help it out. It's the only way I can come up with in my head to solve the same issue I'm having. I want a mini split as well but no $$$.

Think im gonna try to enclose the rear intake above the hoses . Attach a 4" duct , run to a clean air source , and attach a small inline fan to help the air along. Think that would cut down on the smell with out effecting the a/c's efficiency ? Really would like to save my money for a mini -split

im using mine in a tent...for that square intake i have ,a cutout in the tent so it sucks the clean outside room air .Haven't has any issues ,using it like this..

LOL

u need to learn how an AC system works....I guess you think we are making this up or something...

Agent Smith is pointing you in the right direction....you are asking for help and when you are getting it you are still wanting to do it the wrong way, your way. Why even bother making a thread?

it never ceases to amaze me at how people think they can modify / change / improve things without even knowing how they work!!!

Whatever you guys do don't listen to this redrain dude he doesn't have clue what he's talking about.

He did the same shit in my thread and turned out he was totally wrong.

no sorry you are a fucking idiot

read

http://www.ehow.com/how-does_4927514_how-air-conditioning-system-works.html

"The refrigerant has a physical characteristic of being able to absorb heat and transfer that heat to another area through the evaporator and condenser coils"

you are simply and inefficiently cooling your room.

you are pumping cold air into a hot room, instead of removing the heat from the room.

me and smith already told you, and were trying to help you.

How the fuck is an AC system supposed to remove heat when you are not feeding the hot air to be cooled into an AC?

Just cause it works doesn't mean it's working correctly. Plus Green Lung, his is a dual hose A/C while yours is a one hose so at least his works more closely to the way it's supposed to as opposed to the attempt you made at it. LOL, I can't believe you're even argueing this when you have no clue "STILL" how an A/C works LOLOLOLOL

Ok, sorry, long day. I got what your saying. Only way is to filter the hot exhaust? WHat I was suggesting won't do shit.....
I have a scrubber going in the room, next to the a/c. How about ducting some of the scrubbed air of to the intake on the back of the a/c ? Or is that retarded too? Just trying to avoid spending more coin for an inline scrubber. ALso I thought carbon was no bueno at scrubbing above 90 degrees?

Thanks for the link:ying:

If you think RED doesn't know his shit you are crazy.[/B]

Stop fucking with the portables and get a wall banger with a box.

If you use the search button you will find the info. It has been discuss many times on here

well if you dont think the method i posted will use the a/c properly, while atleast cutting down smell, you are crazy. shut the fuck up about the window shakers everyone knows... im pretty sure its in the a/c guide thats stickied, yea they are more efficient than portables but they dont fit everybodys situation! i will agree what the last few people were doing was horribly inefficient but if you are blowing in cold air and sucking out hot you are cooling the room PERIOD and thats what they were looking for.
isnt growing/hydro all about doing what works for you? stop being dicks and help the dude figure out an easy solution without telling him to spend a lot more $ since his funds arent limitless.... and maybe he doesnt have the diy skills/tools to build a wall n whatnot...
chefro420 id say your best bet is to diy the 2 carbon filters and report back... it's a lot easier & cheaper than selling your port and doing all the shit these guys are saying... a/c filters, activated carbon, and gorilla tape probably no more than $30

Thanks for the help! LOL

I've already read and searched :thank you:

Was just looking for a cheap solution until I can afford a split in a few months. :tiphat:
