Anyone using Canna COCO in a DTW setup? (Having issues)

Hey All,

I posted this in the hydro section, since those guys seem to run with resevoirs much more then coco guys do..

Hey All,

Ive been battling this issue for WEEKS now - wasting tons of nutes and water and time.

Whenever i mix up a batch of nutes for my DTW system, my reservoir experiences the following symptoms 1-2 days after mixing. PH also rises considerably.

-Water has a milky looky skin on it
-water turns a bit cloudy

My setup for water is as follows:
-10 gallon res
-2x180GPH pumps, one to feed the plants, the other to mix water around
-Water comes from an RO water setup.
-Water temp is 60-65~

Nutes are as follows:
-Canna Coco a/b
-Drip clean
-Atami Bloombastic
-CalMg

Even when i was running my veg formula, it was the same as above minus the Bloombastic.

below is a pic..could really use some help!

even when running without the bloombastic, my res would turn to shit :(

So recently, i bout a 4 port air pump along with air stones...didnt do much as by day 2.5 res was cloudy again, just no skin on the top.

Anyone else experience this with canna coco?

I get that effect when I mix together all the Canna stuff including the cannazyme. Well, no skin, but they kinda brew when the zyme sits for too long so I just add it right before I apply. I use an airstone too, but never keep my mix for more than a day or two and don't bubble it 24hrs a day either, just an hour or so before I apply. I'm not familiar with the bloomtastic, but that'd be my guess as to what's causing it.

Not liking the sound of that. I'm about to start using a res tank for the first time, and i plan on carrying on using my canna coco a+b, rhizotonic and pk 13/14. I dont want to be changing the res tank evcery couple opf days, defeats the object of getting it in the first place, less bloody work!

ok guys. im here to admit something so utterly stupid that maybe i realyl should just kill myself..

looked at my calmag bottle, and its EFFING ORGANIC!!! HOW DID I MISS THIS?! ive been growing with it for years, but ive always been a soil guy mixing nutes when i need to water.

gonna switch up my organic calmag for chemical and hope for good results.

Solidops, ill report back but im pretty sure no one is as stupid as i am - ,-

it needs some form of circulation so it doesn't become stagnant.

I use the Canna Coco line. I don't use any cal/mag. I just mix tap water with my RO water to reach 120ppm. This gives all the calmag needed.

My res is nice an clear. Though, when I add bloombastic it gets cloudy a little, but not slimy at all.

LOL its happened to all of us. Just a note for you when mixing your canna nutes its always advisable that if you are adding cal mag with canna nutes to add the cal mag first.

Canna was designed to be used with 150-200 ppm tap water. So if you are using RO you will need to precharge from the near "0" ro water to abput 200 ppm.

Adding cal mag in the middle or the end will likely always end bad. Also you shouldnt really notice that milky fog if added first, just be sure to give 10 minutes between addiding each agent

I've been running Canna nutes for years, with both Ro and tap water. I found the pH to be more stable with tap @ 100-200 ppm. I've never used cal/mag because my plants never asked for it. Organic things will definitely funkify a rez, and so will 'zyme products.

Even running straight chem nutes, my rez can get a little cloudy from time to time. I recently discovered that this was from light shining into the rez. My rez was under the grow table, but there was still enough light shining in there to cause some silt to build up over a week or two. I moved the rez outside the room and put a lid on it, and now the nutes are as clear a week later as they were the day I mixed them, and the rez itself hasn't needed any scrubbing out and I'm 5 weeks in.

10 gal res is super small. The magnetic pump will drive the ph and ppm up in the res in no time. Also recommend using an air stone if you don't already. With ppms being 150-200 you should probably charge the water for 24 hours. ie let the airstone sit in the res; the chlorine will will leave the water and it will have much more air in the h2o. rootss love air. hope this helps and gl!!
