Flower the moms or flower the clones?

I am wondering if anyone has facts and or opinion as to which will yield more?
A little history on the Moms. Started Dec 3 2010 from seed. They have been topped and pruned and are in 5 gallon buckets full of soil/coco blend. They are under 24 hrs and have been since birth. The clones will be taken this week. some are already rooted.
Will the moms being slightly rootbound by early May give clones the advantage?
Is it better to make clones and never get them rootbound , put them outside at exactly the right time. Will these out yield older moms?

How about potency? will they be the same, cause they r the same age or will moms be more potent then clones?

Any ideas and feedback is appreciated :)

The more plants the more yield. The bigger ya get the plants before you put them out will be a big factor. Bugs go for the smaller ones first and they cant take on as much as bigger plants. So your advantage is to get them tall before putting them in the ground. Id start 18/6 soon also as easier to become friends with the sun.

Potency will come from mother plant and growers skill. The clone carries mom's age so they are all the same.

You dont need to wait till they are root bound before planting them. Just put some clones and some mom's if ya have that many mom's. Just get a clone, if ya want to keep her.

Good luck:wave:

Clones that never get root bound will out perform mother plants that are root bound in my experiances. Even slightly root bound clones seem to have much more rapid growth than mothers.

Really?? C'mon. Bugs go for whatever ones they like first, lol. JK
Usually plants with compromised immune systems or ones showing signs of stress are first hit by bugs, regardless of size.

True enough. Genetics Mostly, but skill helps :)

So I was thinking that I have flowered out Moms and they did not get as big as clones before. The buds were not as big either on some of em. I was wondering if anyone has noticed when the point of diminishing returns is reached with a plant?

See that's what I'm feeling also. Im wondering just how right or wrong we are?

A larger root-ball will always outperform a smaller one with the same growing times after transplant. If the roots are encircled and matted, score and prune at transplant.

Flower the moms and plant the clones. The older a plant is at transplant, the more it suffers transplant and photoperiod shock. Combined with the rootbinding thats occurred and there is going to be a delay of a couple of weeks while the plant adjust to the new enviroment, but all of the stress can result in nanners.

Also you have to consider the impact of auxin development in the plant as a result of the months of additional lighting it recieved. Ive got a 100 dollars that says it will finish more than 2 weeks later than the clones because auxins have built up and are going to delay the onset of flower and cause flower development to occur at a slower pace.

None of those headaches exist in the clones. They will be bigger, healthier and finish faster than the mothers. Thats my opinion anyway.

Ok agreed. But if the plant with the smaller rootball has never been rootbound, will this theory still hold true? Im thinking that the older larger rootball will undergo stress and transplant shock a little harder than the younger smaller rootball. Is this true?

Great advice, thanks for reminding everyone :)

Flower the moms and plant the clones.
LOL Isn't this the same thing. Are you saying do both ?

The older a plant is at transplant, the more it suffers transplant and photoperiod shock.
Well thats answers my question from above. I thought this was true. I have seen clones out preform moms that have been severly rootbound. But this is not the case at all with my plants. .

Good point. I too have seen Moms flower later than the clones. I am beginning to see that I can manipulate outcomes based upon clone vs mom.
If I want a certain growth rate and profile, and harvest window, I can choose to flower a mother for one result or a clone for another.

For real I feel like this question has been answered. I was looking for a more in depth discussion, but it has already been covered elsewhere and I dont wanna waste bandwith.
Thank you to all that answered :) :tiphat:
