What's with the bum rap for LOLLIPOPPING and SOG??

I've been hearing it's actually not a good way to go. I've been going this way for a while. It's all I really know.

I think I will veg longer as it seems to make a difference. But I don't see the hate in lollipopping. It creates really sizeable buds and none of that popcorn stuff.

Don't know where you saw that but I say they're a bunch of poopyheads. Lollipop and SOG go together like peanut butter and jelly, cookies and milk, pickles and ice cream... ok so the last ones an acquired taste. What could be wrong with row upon row of humongous buds?

Only complaint I have with this method, which I gave up for ScrOG is, with SOG, I had 50-75 plants at any given time. With Scrog, maybe two, usually one. Much rather get caught with one plant than 75.

i ran a lollipop sog for year after year. one gal pots pushed together and it yielded well. but alas i switched to vertical, and am enjoying the more mature style of my leggy girls.

dense indica great for sog. stretchy sours need intense side lighting aka bare bulb!

i would say the downside of lollypoppin and sog is plant numbers i wouldnt be able to sleep if i had 75 flowerin ladies at one time... other then that i dont see a downside...

I never understood the concept of snipping off the popcorn, though I am all about the sog. I do find that if I let them branch out too much the popcorn gets loose, but with a normal single-cola, flowered clone my popcorn is just fine. As for big buds I cut them up before I smoke them anyways so nbd. Of course I'm only growing for personal...

I do agree about plant numbers but it is the best way to produce from a small space, especially if you run perpetual.

I agree with Freezerboy. One or two is better than 50-100. Less work, more fun. But I think SOG produces more. (No veg)

you have 2 sides to any coin

smaller growers 'in a space of 3x3' sog works very very well indeed
Since a 400w cant penetrate that deep into the canopy,
so lots of small plant makes alot of scence


if your running 6x1000w keeping em small isnt a problem/concern
Since the light will penetrate deep into the canopy

do what is right for you, your grow space and your needs.

I have run some pretty large SOGS. There is nothing wrong with it, and yield was pretty good at close to 2# per 1000W. That was with a mediocre strain. Lots of room for improvements. I trimmed all lower growth around day 14 and got one large cola.

Now I am playing around with larger plants

there is nothing wrong with SOG if you can handle the plant #'s

I agree with the lower amount of plants theory. I ran flood trays and a scrog-2 sativa plants in 2'x4 trays. The yeild was fenominal-14 oz per plant. The only problem is if you have any issues in the grow. I got spider mites and it was impossible to treat properly and hit every leaf with that thick of a canopy. I switched to soil for a couple of runs to make sure that my bugs are completely gone, but I can't live with the paranoia of 60 plants either. I can legally have 15, so I don't have any reason to go beyond that. Cheers!
