....upstairs room is too damn hot... (so gotta move my setup to one of the vacant downstairs rooms)

the closet where it's going has a retarded "louvered" accordian door..aka "no door"

i was looking for a cheap/easy way to seal it off and block the light.

....so i saw thought about the grow tents and their zipper doors and then saw this:

http://www.gardenscure.com/420/construction/112082-how-one-solution-doorless-grow-room.html

i dont like the how-to, and could prolly figure it out better, but wanted to get advice from u guys on how to do this right.

are there any better how-tos on doing a zipper door like this????

if ti was me I'd just go pick up a cheepo door at a thrift store and frame it in on the cheep...I've dealt with zippers/tarps before and I hated it....kinda a pain in the ass to move stuff in and out...as well as climing in and out....just my opinion though :joint:

hey Yukon, dont know about your door frame measurements but why not replace that slider with a regular interior door. just checked lowes and they had them as low as 23.00

Not sure on what hardware was included, im guessing you would have to buy a door knob but it might be a little more stealthy than a tent door and velcro.

hope this helps a bit.

BTW congrats on your med card, wish we ALL could be as fortunate.

I grow in a closet, I put velcro all aroun the door fram then hung a sheet of panda plastic the size of the door with the other side of the velcros, then over that I hung a doubled up black sheet hung like a curtain to make sure all light is kept out. panda plastic by itself didnt work, light still leaked out were the plastic didnt seal perfectly. I'd take that accordian door right off.

Well I had a similar problem in separating my veg/mother room from my flower room and used a pocket door. Cheap, easy to install, durable and opens completely out of the way.

I used to develop film. You don't want light for that, it's a lot worse than plants, believe me.

I use to hang black fabric over the door on the inside and that blocks light. You can staple it and it is easy install and easy removal.

Hey man. check out Wally World or similar for insulated blackout curtains. Make sure to get cheap rod to hang them with. Mount the rod on the inside of the closet, Use clips to keep cutain together in the center.
Now you still have your door, just open it, pop off one or two clips and slide open your curtains as wide as needed.

Poke around the store, you should be able to find a solution that works for you.

Hope this helps.

A trick I learned from the Mills Pride thread is to use silicone caulk and vaseline. A thin coat of vaseline on the door where it meets the caulk will keep the door from sticking to it. The directions on the tube of black silicone caulk said to let it cure for 24 hours, but I found that at least two days (if not three) was better.

Hey, I might have a good solution for you involving a lage cardboard box, panda film, and white duct tape.. I have the same type of doors on my grow closet and these items sealed them off light tight and provided a free air intake too. Oh and you don't have to remove the door, this is to build a seal for the existing door.

I have to wait until my ladies wake up and I'll snap a few shots for ya.

I'm not crazy about fabric or curtains in the grow room. I use alot of the foil backed sheet insulation. It's cheap, rigid, easy to cut and has a reflective surface. You can find the stuff at just about any home improvement store. A 4'x8'x5/8" costs around $11.00. I use that stuff a lot, 5 sheets and a roll of duct tape makes an awesome 4x4x8 grow room. It cuts with a razor blade or kitchen knife. A couple of 1x2s can be attached to the inside and support a light. You could cut it to size and use double sided tape to attach it to the inside of the door or get a piece of vinyl siding trim and affix it to the inside of the door frame on top and bottom. Put the sheet into the grooves and you have an instant sliding door.

well i mosty got it figured out...

thanks for all the tips ppl!!!!

ill post sum pics later after the paint dries and i have it togeteher.

...anyway i'm leaving the louvered door up, and i'm using a cpl layers of curtin type stuff to cover the door from the inside....1 is a doubled over paint tarp ( to block the light) and the other is a white tarp that will be facing the room.

...those r going over a shower curtain rod so that i can shove them over when i want more air in thru the louvers.....should work perfect.

...if it doesn't block light out entirely i'll put up a black-out curtain over the front...

.....and prolly pick up a tent eventually
