New PC Grow

Hey all, so I thought I'd give the whole PC Grow Box thing a try. I want to make this an extremely simple set up, because I want to grow a plant from seed to harvest before I start going crazy over thinking things. So i'm basically just using some MG Violet mix, and I do have some Earth Juice from a previous failure should my plant show any signs of a deficiency. Naturally for a small PC I went straight to 12/12 from seed. Oh and sorry for the bad quality images, I'm forced to use my phone for photos, I was hoping to have a digital camera towards the end for macros shots, but that probably won't happen.

Right now I've got 3 23watt CFLs mounted up top(2x 2700k, 1x 6500k). I did the first week with '2x 6500k and 1x 2700k', but looking back, for my next grow i'm gonna do the '2x 6500k and 1x 2700k' until it shows sex, then switch to the flowering lights. Currently the only light leak in the case is for huge on in the back for the exhaust fan. I set up a light trap for the intakes, but when I put in a light trap for the exhaust, my temps went from 74-76ish, to 95 degrees F. I did some experimenting with the fans (2x 80mm intake, 1k 120mm exhaust.), and found the best result with having the intake fans blow directly across the cfls, then I have the exhaust fan in the normal spot in the back. Next time I'll triple the power of the exhaust fans and actually use the light trap.

The plant itself is about 2-3 weeks old, honestly I forgot when I planted it. I would have documented this from the very beginning, but i've had bad luck in past grows and didn't think this would take off the way it did. It's a bagseed grow, but I was very impressed with the quality of the smoke I got from her, at least for mids.

Right after she showed sex, I topped her and tied her down, looking back for the next grow i'll start earlier with light LST, and top her before she shows sex. the completely horizontal LST that i'm going for requires that the stem still be somewhat soft and flexible.

Here's a shot of her from underneath, it looked pretty cool so I thought I'd post it.

Now one thing I've noticed with a few past failures, is that temps are everthing. I would always be in the mid 80s, and my plants would never grow, and i'm talking like a new set of leaves every 2 weeks. But this time I have decent temps, and growth took off(I know it's not the MG giving me such fast growth). But that's it for now, I'll update this as best I can for ya, so feel free to constructively criticize my setup, just bare in mind that this is a "rough draft" of a grow, and my main goal is to keep it simple.

Well I woke up with the girls today, and noticed some of the growth went up into the lights and burned the very tips of some new growth. Not a huge deal, but I am going to have to start lowering the plant down an extra inch or so before bed, to avoid any more serious burning.

Thats the problem with cfl grows I suppose, if you want to use these little 23 watters, you have to keep the plant within an inch to get all the benefits of the light, it won't burn the plant until it's physically touching. But it just means I have to constantly check on her, which I suppose is a good thing, considering I have no form of CO2 generation in my case, just an open window in the room the case is in.

It's been about a week since the original pics, and I made a few adjustments to the case. Luckily for me, the case I bought had a front panel that pops designed to help keep dust out, well I decided to take that and add a replacement filter from a humidifier as a replacement. This way I keep all dust, dog hairs, bugs, ect, out.

I also decided to overhaul the fan system where I basically just cram as many fans in as my 1amp 12v DC converter could support without lowering fan speed or causing a hazard.

That's a 120mm intake fan blowing directly across the newly mounted sockets for a grand total of 92 watts? Yeah i'm gonna have to do something about that soon...and a 80mm fan blowing up at an angle toward the lights to support airflow circulation.
Then also for exhaust I have 2 80mm fans blowing away the hot air from the lights, below that I put another 120mm fan, and yes..another 120mm fan below that. This lowers my temps enough that I have to lower the speeds of the fan to keep it from getting too cold in there. Which means I have room to work with for the light trap and odor control. These however are cheap fans from a local Best Buy, so I have plenty of room to upgrade to higher cfm fans that I can find online.

Now as for the girl herself...

As you can see, not a whole lot of excitement, but what can you expect from a first full grow, in Miracle Grow, and constantly being stressed with light leaks, and changes in her surroundings.

The 2 main buds at the end are developing much faster than the others, which I assumed would happen as this is my first attempt at LST, however the lower buds are growing a lot nicer than they would have.

Next grow I definately need to upgrade my pot side and occupy more of the floorspace, hopefully that and quite a few other changes will help me increase the length of the stretch, or just the overall size of the plant.

Oh and one last thing, I was considering 1 Liter Air Pots, then possibly running with 2-3 plants in the case at a time, think these would be good in a micro grow?
