What's new

1st time, soil, 45 bagseed, suggestions, scrog?

I've got 45 bagseed started in soil, 11 days from seed, in twenty-three 5" plastic squares. They are two to a pot(I realize this wasn't the greatest of choices but being as I'm only giving 50% female consideration with the bagseed, WTF)

This will be my first success(so I say) and I'm stating my equipment, plans, setup in hopes of recieving feedback and mayhap some troubleshooting zingers so I ain't doing wing a ding dingers.

4' parabolic
400w hps ballast
1000w hps ballast
400w mh conversion bulb
400w hps bulb
1000w hps bulb(yet to pick up)
423 cfm fan
panda paper(Also intend to pickup cooltube or two when I grab the 1000w, will this fan run two tubes?)

This is a soil operation:

5 part FoxFarm Ocean Forest
2 part perlite
1 part bone meal(1-11-0)(much? everthing I have minus hygrozyme, ej catalyst I'd already come by so just kind of threw it together and added plans)

Nutes-
FF Grow Big
Hygrozyme
EJ Catalyst
Liquid Karma(Wanting to be organic so may well replace Grow Big with EJ product before needed)

I currenlty have them under the 400mh with panda paper draped around the parabolic and a fan blowing throw an opening for ventilation. The light is 15" above the plants and all seem to be doing fine. They take a little less than a gallon a day treated with 2ml each Hygrozyme, EJ Catalyst, LK. In the next few weeks I plan to build an enclosure(multi-door box) out of plywood and 2x3's. The planned dimensions being 6x6x6(tall enough?). I plan to do a 6x6 enhanced canopy scrog(slightly inverted). My concern is that being bagseed, and the plants already showing sure variety in size and likeness; is this going to be a tremendous issue with the scrog? I can throw the faster grows on the corners and sides with the inverted screen and I'm hoping that will be the deal. Also since the plants will be started onto the screen when I got to get the males out, is this gonna be a terrible thing? I plan to place the screen 10-14" above soil. Also, when I transplant under the screen, I'm planning to put them in a community tub and add fungus. I would have a base of perlite for fair drainage, if the tub idea is workable, what's an adequate amount of soil for an expected 20-25 plants in this setup?

The bagseed is a mix of commercial that all tasted as it was grown in an agricultural operation in mexico or wherever they grow fields of dope like corn. There were a few from a decent outdoor grow that dropped a kernel here and there. I'm hoping for an interestingly varied end product in the least, which points out my other concern about the feasibility of doing the scrog as these plants will most likely finish flowering not all at once. I suppose I may harvest as they go, but am unsure the certainty of that, maybe a sog is better, but being as quality is undetermined from the start, yield is of first preposition.
I plan to add the 1000hps to flower and retain the 400mh so I figure a Hortilux fuller spectrum bulb may not only be unneeded, but unwanted. Ideas, criticisms, nute advice desired, encouragement appreciated. Will have pics of the poject status in the next week. Thanks for all replies.

alrighty first off i would not feed anything to you plants for the first 3 weeks or so unless they are showing that they need it. FFOF is a string soil and has enough food, and you can make the soil toxic if you not careful. i dont want to freek you out but with FFOF u can go at least 3 weeks and a transplant before u need to feed ur first feeding. also start ur ferts off slow once you do start. more is not always better when it comes to that. umm lets see u may want a bigger fan to run 2 toobs or get a second fan for the second and just do a 2 into 1 near the exhaust exit. umm other then that sounds like a fun grow gl

Mr.p

You're on the right track by spotting that the plants are all growing at different rates, and that's in veg. Just wait until you put them into 12/12!

To get the most out of a scrog, you really need to run a single variety, ideally from clones from a single mother. On top of that, it'll probably take two to three grows before you really nail how to fill the canopy to the maximum extent.

Also, assuming you get 22 females, you won't have any room to scrog them under a single 1400W. Even assuming that you keep each plant to a canopy area of 3 square feet (not particularly big)*, that's 66 sqft in total, which would need more like 3000w to illuminate effectively.

Having said that, you'll lose nothing by trying. In fact you'll have fun and learn stacks about your many strains along the way! Good luck :)

* I did one that was about 10sqft last year.

Thanks for these responses,

I have to ask, I realize i will be having far more plants than the space would allow for the maximum yield scrog(vertical as well?), but how am I going to get the most with this? should I be shooting for just a sog or do I want to switch to flower sooner than later? I'm just trying to figure the best way to fill the box up with bud.

And with the nutes? is what i'm supplementing now considered nutes? LK and Catalyst both have way low npk, and hygrozyme is none.

and I overwatered and have some green algea showing on the surface of a few pots? problem?

parabolic duo?

parabolic duo?

Allright I have some photo's, figuring how to upload them. I have a possibly important question. Out of the 45 started, I have transplanted 30 to permanant containers. I have my 1000w hps Ultrasun bulb in and as it's day 28 from seed in this limited space(plans changed with budgetary concerns), I am considering mounting a 400w mh bulb next to the 1000w hps bulb on my parabolic. Initial plans called for a cooltube but this isn't happening here and now, so, am I threatening my bulbs or potentially the combustibility of my dwelling by putting two bulbs together on a parabolic designed for one? My space is 4'x5' and I'd like these suckers to get hit with some blue when I throw them into flower. Also I've got 30 plants from 6"-10", some or alot are going to be males, so I think I want to switch to flower maybe even today? Am i growing way to many for this space?, again, all bagseed and potential for half to be thrown out. Thoughts suggestions?

Shoddy pics

Shoddy pics

Here's some shoddy pics for a base idea. All I got until I figure something else for pic posts. The last ones the top of the parabolic. It's a 20" square hex. I'm thinking if I spread the mountings and keep a fan on it putting two bulbs on this may be masterful, but unsure what these bulbs do with accompanying heat.

Yeh man, I just switched to flower on the 1st and have been weeding everynight. I'm not doing too bad. 15 females confirmed, 5 yet with no hairs. The ones with balls were an easy find+pull, the ones I'm waiting on the preflowers look like the classic bud, or little green flame yet no hairs coming out, I'm giving them another 4-5 days before they come out. Sexing, It's kinda like that gay guy at the bar who won't leave ya alone and keeps telling you how hot you are, then decides or believes he'll be turning his perverted attention into a dominance fuck, well hope these are lady's cause I told that guy he already lost, he didn't believe me but he did. Though it's fine with me if they do come out as I have enough for my space I believe. I'll have some more pics up soon.

duo done, red light and blue

duo done, red light and blue

Done it and put it on them, looks neat as heck the two at each other when it's lit up. Now these seatin, sucking plants are at the GD concert. I'll plan to rotate the parabolic 90 degrees or so every 3-4 hours to get the spectrums mixed if anyone wanted to know. Two extra fans going, one one the lamps and another pulling the heat up and out. I plan to snap a couple pics of my plants in seperate containers in a minit here.

I'll have some plant pics up tonight, but have a fairly important question for my operation. Last night, I was going over one of my favorite females, to find to my alarm, a BALL forming at a node off one of the lower offshoots. This was the only ball on the whole plant so I trimmed it off to the node below. Is it terribly unwise to leave this plant in there being it's hermied? or should I chance it and pay alot of attention to all bud sites?

Also, I have 20 females confirmed(hopefully no more hermies, possible downside of bagseed genetics?) 12-16" ten days into flower, in a 5x4' tent with 1400w hittings them. Awesome looking variety of plants. Any guestimates on a potential harvest quantity?

Day 29 of flower and plants are looking pretty as could be. Promise to have new camera next week. Have few questions. One plant, one of the best one's going, as far as lst and everything sprouted some bananas on half my top sites, I cut off all that showed, should I wreck this plant or just keep an eye on it? Is my garden already pollinated?

Number two, I have brown like rust deposits on 3 plants, all in the same container, I'm sorry again about the pic sito, but what the hell could this be? Looks like someone spray painted rust on the top of the leaves.

They look like the typical bagseed structure, the one that looks promising to me is the second one from the right.. bottom row, and the one next to it, but look's don't mean everything.. hopefully you got a couple winner winner chicken dinners outta these ;)

First 4 are more possible strains,

5,6 are one of my fan screens,

and the rest are another and of my fav looking honey, though she does pop off a banana every day or so, she's worth the extra attention, got some seeds forming at base from one I didn't notice so I'll be continuing this one, callin' it Sparkle Pop

Seperate fan screen pics,

The setup as it be,

Last one is my two fav's(by the looks anyway) Sparkle Pop on the right, Monday Morning on the left, both have seeds developing on a few lower bud sites, I'm happy of this, if it should stay to that way anyway. Had some cal def in this pot, calmag appears to have helped, also may have some boron issues in some pics, so getting some EJ Microblast soon as a base-round cure.

Suggestions, please, it would be nice to hear some feedback on these, could having these suckers too close pose any issues? Have 3 fans and dehumidifier in the room which is run during dark period.

This is day 35 flower, 20" from 1000hps and 400mh, yield estimates?

Thanks for checking em out Deo, I thought they seemed pretty basic for the most part(some have very little resin so far, hope they still may have effects in the end, are there strains that don't even buzz ya?), but then that does make others extraordinary

say about your phone pics in your earlier reply have you checked this out about phone pics?
