What's new

24 hrs or 18/6

Hi people,

I grow using a 600w system. I have always vegged on a 24 hr continuous light regimen and I am considering vegging on an 18/6 cycle to save some $s. I was wondering what the consensus of opinion on this subject might be.

Thanks.

I don't think it makes much difference really. I've done both, I tend towards 24 hrs. for the sake of simplicity.

there is a LOT of debate on this subject. Some stating that plants need "sleep" to reach their optimal health. Others stating that your plant will grow 6 hours less a day due to no light. I subscribe to the 24 hours let them bake and grow methodology.

Honestly your looking at a very modest savings in electricity...

calculated at 14 cents a KWH your looking at

$51.41 @ 18 hours per day for 30 days
VS
$68.54 @ 24 hours per day for 30 days

$17.13 per month.

is it worth it? you be able to know for sure in your case after testing both, with your set up and your strain.

I've never personally seen a difference so I tend to run them all on 18/6. Save a bit of $, no major differences in end result afaik.

more light = more growth
it's as simple as that. That's why I keep the lights on 24/7 during veg.

Plant's don't sleep and don't need to rest. If there was a biological need for rest I think that botanists would have worked that out by now.

I've always split the difference and run 20/4. During summer it's useful to have the lights off during the hottest part of the day. Handy for spraying the plants too. btw i've found cloning is a lot faster with 20/4 compared to 24/0.
