yes all HID lighting has a ballast . so many ways to upgrade your lighting its hard to give good advise . a little more about your space , ventilation & etc.... would help us to inform you .
HPS /MH = more heat
more cfl's =more heat
pll's = more heat
led's = less heat more cost
In there I have 8 plants in a perpetual setup. My moms and clones are in a completely different area.
I'm thinking 2x150w might be the way to go if I need to get ballasts, I've found a whole setup for 70$ each. Giving Each 2'x1.5' area it's own 150w light.
That makes sense right?
Some more notes: Growing in a soiless medium with general hydropoincs neuts. Taking clones and vegging for a few weeks before they get put into the flowering chamber for 8 weeks.
Flowering chamber is 12/12 perpetual.
I'll take some pics and post them tomorrow if that would help.
Hello, enjia2000. As cabinet grows go, yours is a relative whopper. You've got a 12 sq foot print. A general tip for HID grows is 50wpsf. If you had the headroom, you could rock 600 watts.
Even a 400 needs a little space between the bulb and canopy. I'm not sure how much headroom you'd net.
Since your footprint is rectangular, I see two 250s hanging vertically and one oval plant arrangement around both bulbs. It's only ~41 wpsf but close proximity with plants and bulbs would make up some difference. It's not bad to have a bit of room on the periphery of the cab for maintenance.
Whatever you decide, you can grow a load in that box.
enjia2000, that cab looks closer to 3 x 1.5 x 3. Forget the two 250s. A single 250 mounted horizontal would be ~56 wpsf. You'd need ~100 cfm exhaust if you want a comparable scrubber.
Freezerboy and Verdant Green are specialists and have 250 experience. If you're mulling it over, drop em a pm and see what they say. Who knows, maybe they'll drop by here.
I ended up going with a single 150w to replace the 6 inner most lights keeping the outer 6 cfls to supplement light. About a 70$ investment, thanks for your input Disco.
