What's new

when is it ready to cut without a loupe

I have a loupe and use it to inspect the plants at the front of my 3x3 tent, but I'm too lazy to pull all my plants out to get a good look at the ones farther back. What is the 2nd best, most accurate way to tell if your plants are done? I figure if the pistols are 80% red/orange, then we're about there. This simplified method couldn't be that far off, or am I missing something?

I have never smoked a bowl and been like " Wow, this stuff went way too long! " It's always the other way around.

Don't be lazy man.

Generally all the hairs should be died back orange/red IMO strain dependent of course. You can sometimes see the trichs change with the naked eye as well if you have decent eyesight.

Myself, I look for large, swollen calyx's, and little new hair production before grabbing my microscope to scope trichs...:rasta:

If you can reach the back you can snip a piece of the bud and look at it with the loupe. that is the best way to keep it stable for examination anyway.

If your going to put in all the time to grow, why would you not want to pull the plants out to check em?
#1 goal should be having the best quality product out there. You can't reach that goal being lazy.

you get back what u put into it. Being to lazy to pull a plant out and check trichs is pretty bad man. i pull all my plants outta my tent every other day often for no particular reason, just to check out dif. phenos, new groth, and the likes. U gotta bond with that shit man, sing em songs, read them bed time stories, ect. thats how u up your gram per watt ratio or atleast thats how i think it works lol

I do this. New pistils are typically clumped together. As new calyx swell, the clumps separate, exposing (individual) pairs of pistils. That's when I get the loop.

I also agree with Phillthy that pistil color isn't necessarily indicative of maturity.

IMO, it's hard to beat trich color for the call.

All I do is trim a piece of sugar leaf from each girl from various sections of the plant (take a few samples from each plant) then take em over to your computer and look with cheap 30$ usb microscope. Takes still shots too which you can save and compare with later samples.
