right now i would say OR
if sb5073 passes.....WA

right now, wa lets me grow 15 plants and posses 24oz.
but
instead of protection from search and arrest...we have "affirmative defense"
so the reality of ones protection varies by county, and the local cops/DA.

Washington and Oregon are okay, but the real deal is California.

As far as everything else is concerned I think Oregon is more beautiful and cheaper to live. Less of a Yuppie Attitude in Oregon. A poor man can afford a beach house in Oregon.

Picking a state for weed alone is not the best idea. But staying out of a state with bad weed laws if you smoke is smart.

Not sure what Oregon beach has any cheap houses? Cheap and coast don't equate. My opinion from living on the Oregon coast for a lot of years.

i've heard the ailment lists are shorter in both OR/WA compared to CA...

anyone have experience with this?
friends from california have had to get their recommendation in california 1st before an Oregon doctor will renew it ...what gives?

We have affirmative defense here also and it's pretty much as you described with leo. Saved my ass recently.

SacredTHCRitual--"i've heard the ailment lists are shorter in both OR/WA. "--

Pretty sure I'd qualify

Not the reason. Wife may have to transfer. But would be next year.
Just testing the waters to which state as where she'd be going we could live in either state.

Well if you go to a beach town in say, San Diego or Santa Cruz you cannot even live there unless you are a millionaire.

You can move to many beach towns from Brookings to Seaside and find affordable house in these beach towns where you can walk to the beach in minutes and most likely see the beach because of the hills and bluff over look them. Oregon is very depressed and money goes far.

Washington has better, more relaxed laws. Plus Washington is talking about legalization right now. Cops don't trip out here!

Nice thing about OR and CA: the ocean beaches are public property.
It's more true in OR than in California and I'm thinking of the private beaches in Malibu, Huntington Harbor, Newport Beach, Newport Harbor, Corona del Mar, Laguna Beach (big time), Dana Point, and then the mess in North San Diego County.

OR codified public access over 90 years ago. It became part of the state constitution in 1969. There are about 4 small pockets on the 300 miles of coastline that were 'grand-fathered in' with the initial law but the restrictions on what the owners in these enclaves can and cannot do as far as remodeling/upgrades make it almost impossible to sell. 90 year old beach houses don't have too much appeal.

Maybe in Wilmington or Long Beach down in 'Cali'

The list of allowable ailments is quite short in WA.

It is SO easy to get a med card out here in Washington. List of ailments found online is old. Come out here and I will put u in contact with a superb doctor. Can have ur card in no time at all!

Yeah - it really is a dump.

Particularly when compared to the 'Cali' garden spots like Bell Gardens, Stanton, Van Nuys, Oakland, El Monte, etc.

Then there's a couple of organizations that I support with both donations as well as volunteer time like the "Stay in Pacoima Committee" and "We Can Help"

The last one is the one that has proved most helpful for 'Cali' transplants as money is provided to rent families a U-Haul truck as well as providing help to pack up their 'sticks' for the ride back home.

Given the population differences there's just more jobs back home in the food service sector. Unfortunately with a much smaller population in Oregon there's just so many jobs available busing tables.

Interesting that 'Cali' has 20% higher unemployment than Oregon [cite - cite] - funny how that's working out!

It seems the differences in law are minimal between the three states. However, California and Oregon both have state income taxes. Sure, Oregon doesn't have a state sales tax, and property taxes are reasonable, but the state sales tax and estate tax offset other positives previously discussed. Furthermore, Oregon does not exempt retirement income. Unless you can successfully live below the radar, California and Oregon are not options, in my opinion, if you have reportable income.

Can anyone offer specific advice about life in Washington, and places to live? The metro Seattle area is ideal, but the traffic is unreal. Lately, I've been looking at properties in Bellingham and the surrounding area.

I/we looked around Anacortes and enjoyed our week there.

Pretty nice!

CC:

I actually prefer Oregon, and have made several trips to view properties in Grant's Pass, Eugene, Albany, Philomath, and Lebanon. Oregon is an absolutely beautiful state, and the people are very friendly. That said, I just can't overcome the tax issues.

Thanks for the response. Respects....

Bellingham is excellent. Every outdoor activity available. Cheaper, more rural areas
