i wasn't too sure what forum to put this in but, what's the ideal ph for growing in perlite? it's too late for me to adjust it in my current grow but, i do want to know for my next crop.

I also grow in perlite and My plants love it when the PH is 5.8-6.0 with an EC of 1.2 ;)

Perlite is great, I do veggies in a perlite/peat or perlite/coco mix, about 5 to 1 perlite to peat/coco ratio.

I haven't had to worry about pH in quite some time. What nutes are you going to be using?

what kind of ph meter do you use? i've just got one of the ones from lowe's that reads ph and moisture.

I've been meter-less for about three years now precious. I know about how much PH down to add to my tap water before I pour my cal-mag and base nutrient in to get it to the 5.8-6.0 range.. .
The trick is to feed lightly but make sure there is plenty of run off each watering so you are primarily flushing each and every watering which in turn keeps the PH in the medium in check and also keeps the medium from getting salt build up.

Oh and btw, those cheap ph meters your talking about at lowe's are a waste of 10 bucks imvho. I'd go get your money back and buy yourself a General Hydroponic PH test kit if your gonna go the cheap route.

Thats all I have been using from time to time.

I'm using GH grow, micro, bloom and big bud & bud candy.

I'll be transplanting my clones soon and I was wondering how should I prepare the perlite mix to get the ph right? Should I just keep using straight perlite or should I add bone meal and all to adjust the ph?

From what I've read from you guys ph in the perlite isn't a big deal as long as the water is ph balanced and you flush often.

As far as adding coco, that's just to retain moisture right? I've read many of you use straight perlite and water more frequently. I've also seen where people add hydroton to the bottoms of the containers. Is this a good idea?

I've really gotta get a ph meter and ro system. I'm sure that'll make the biggest difference of all right now. As far as ro systems go, is there a system that can be hooked up to a faucet and removed easily just to be used when needed then stored away?

It both retains moisture and acts as a slight buffer. Never tried using all 3 parts in hempy, normally I'd do lucas or just strait maxibloom. I've used osmocote plus mixed in as well to good effect. Hydrotron will keep the bottom heavy, a perlite only container is surprisingly easy to tip over with a top heavy plant in it.

You can get a faucet quick connect for your RO system. If you're not handy a competent plumber can install one or a similar setup and no, it's not suspicious. Plenty of people run water filters for private use.
