So I took the plunge today and went out and bought a cool tube so i can start running my 600 vertically. After seeing some threads in here I was totally convinced. I've been getting a LB pretty consistantly running horizontal and hope to get at least 20oz running vertical.

Im gonna have to completely change the way I grow, for this but I think it should be worth it. I had always done heavy LST to keep my plants as low as possible now Im going to be doing LST vertically using bamboo stakes and garden wire.

Im gonna be doing 8 plants in 6 gallon bags and hope to pull 2.5 - 3oz per plant. I've been getting 2.5 to 3.25 pretty easily horizontal so I think I should be all set. Now I just gotta get a good pair of sunglasses :smoker:

OK I wil now issue you your official Vertical Growers United member card and expect some hazing from Aerohead or Whodair or another member, it will include massive amounts of ganja....followed closely by a trip to Outback Steakhouse, Round Table pizza or any mexican restaurant you choose...lol:jump:

Welcome Iron Lion I think you'll do fine, this thread and IC in general have TONS of information to help you produce more potent and enjoyable med's or recreational activities herb.

*** In all seriousness DO get a really good pair of sunglasses or welders goggles, eye protection is a MUST with vertical! *****

Grow on bro:bump:

Return the cool tube and upgrade your intake/exhaust... bare bulb all the way! :) Oh, and I'm treasurer, so I'll be expecting dues next month.

I know bare bulb might be better but Im super clumsy and I like to foliar feed, get a drop of water on that bulb and KABLAMO! or I'd be burning my forehead, I can just see having to try to explain that one lol

I just got my new shit set up. So far tho I am totally sold, I feel like a cave man that made metal for the first time, I cant believe it took me so long to do this.

What is the down side of cool tubes? aside from them being a pain in the ass to hang and and slight loss of light thru the glass.

eh, truth be told I may use them in the summer months... I can't knock cool tubes cause I haven't tried em. I just avoid em cause it's another piece of equipment I don't need to mess with.

Ah I getcha, one thing I noticed after spending a little bit of time in with my plants it seems one down fall is a little loss of light due to the ducting on the tube. I really cant get over how much more light is provided over all, its like night and day.

Iron;

Some peeps in the Vertical threads have made chicken wire )or similar materials) shields to protect them from accidentely burning themselves by hitting the bare bulbs ..or like I did, melt part of a really nice down vest...DOHHHH.

As far as foliar feeding goes, when I USED to do that I always did it when the lights were off (shrug) then wipe down your bare COLD bulbs before leaving or it should evaporate before turning on again if you time it right.

Good luck....I need to get a loan from the treasurer.

ALWAYS wear cotton or wool around bare bulbs... i recommend long sleeves too.
shade 5 welders goggles are sooo much better than regular sunglasses.
bare bulbs preferable
foliar works best right before lights on or right after off.

maybe use smaller bags as im sure you could get 3.5 z's out of a 3 gallon even if its dirt... coco you could go smaller like 2 gallon but you'd have to water more.

these plants are in three gallons

Nice brother! I have a 4ft dual cool tube! 1000 on top and 600 on bottom. I find it convinient especially keeping my bulbs cool buds can be inches from my tube and not show sign of burning. Exactly how is your ducting on your tube?

That is a really nice canopy ya got there. This grow I got going right now is a little fucked up because its in week 9 12/12 and i just mad the swtich, my plants are currently set up for horizontal and LST'd to hell. I cant wait til next run when i go start to finish vertically. it is going to be a lot less work per plant in the long run because I dont have to worry about tying them down like crazy all the time.

I will have to do some experimenting with plant numbers and plant size. If I could get 3oz a piece from 8 plants vertical that would be an 8 oz increase from my best horizontal run.

right now my my tube is set up like this

^
exhaust fan
ducting
cooltbe
duct
carbon filter

I will be looking in to bare bulbs in the future but right now I have a lot of shit crammed in a tiny closet not much room to move around.
By next winter I want to have a 4x8 tent with a 600 and 1k hung vertically so I can start growing some trees. I just gotta collect a few more pieces of equipment and get a handle on vertical growing.

welcome to the club bro,

like some one said its best to lose the tube, you think its scary and all that stuff now ,,, wait until you start using it a few weeks in and you'll want to ditch it ....

im not knocking it but if you can upgrade your fan and exhaust, you reward will be much better,,, and yeah my gardener is clumsy and he foliar feed sometime as well and he does it in a room with 4 k barebulbs, if he can do it you can too :D:D:D

cheers,

hey man, thanx for the advice. I have been spending a little time each day studying the mechanics of vertical tube growing. I notice a lot of light is lost in to the bottom ducting, this also makes it very hard to get adequate light to different sized plants. Im gonna see if i can scratch up some cash and buy a 4x4 tent and set my shit up better with bare bulb. Growing in a closet sucks ass.

yeah barebulb is the way to go, you can ask marlo, bobbles and others :D

if you can up your exahuast and fan, you wont need the cool tube at all

and that will give the girls the extra lumnes they needed ;) yeah its going to be hard to get use to it the first few weeks but after that you're golden ;)

have fun IL! and and post the pics once you set em up too haha

cheers,
