Renting in the Bay Area?

My scenario is pretty straight forward. I have only ever worked in owned houses where the landlord was fully aware of what was going on, etc. Looking to get out on my own. I do run a legit business, so I would like to focus on that, but still have a small room or closet grow in a rental property until I can buy. 3-6month lease or month to month, etc.

How do I go about finding a place where I can grow and figure out if the landlord is cool?

Probably dumb questions, but I have never had to do a rental before.

thanks

i would honestly keep it secret, there is NOT alot of bay area homeowners who will rent to 215 growers. most know that growes are gonna gut their houses and create a big mess. just keep it secret....its not that pot friendly out here. if people think you are growing they will be quick to rip you off, etc..

there was a guy renting out his house that had a bedroom set up with a few 600s and flood trays already..but stuff like that is rare.

Rent in the Bay is OUTRAGEOUS. Good luck finding one that you can live with and a landlord who is cool with you ruining their house.

Edit: This sounded really harsh but its true. No owner wants someone cutting holes in their walls or ruining their wood floors with nutes. Sucks, bad situation. Good luck.

bay area rent is usually around 1500 a month for a small 3bedroom in the east bay, 2000+ for a decent 3-4 bedroom. in san francisco double that. there are other places where rent isnt too expensive, richmond, hayward, east oakland come to mind.

renting out here sucks....i got into a mortgage and i pay 1200 a month now on a house that i would be paying 2k to rent.

geez its not that bad just dont tell them its your right as a patient regardless of what you may have heard

just dont tell them, a small 2000 watt grow will not ruin a house

I saw that on craigslist :) Google "growhouse san jose" and it should come up. Yah look at Oaktown Richmond. Your not really going to get anything in the SouthBay. Los Gatos, Cupertino, Saratoga, Campbell, Santa Clara, nahh too expensive. Try Fremont maybe.

^ i live in a questionable part of the east bay, not as bad as east oakland but definately not nice by any means (krunchbubble saw a gang shooting take place once down my block haha), i know for a fact its nortenos territory, most kids out here are flared up in Cincinnati Reds gear. i never wear red and the locals rarely see me so they might suspect me as a surenos, and theres been a bunch of X3-X4 gang graffiti popping up at the local corner stores. i do not walk around here lol, thats why i have a truck for. i walk my dog around my block but down the hill towards the flatlands i never go on foot. you arent allowed to concealed carry in california so why risk it. there are so many stupid people out here willing to risk 10 years in prison for 100 bucks......stay in the car...

if you find a place and need to know about its location just send me PM...i know where most of the bad blocks are i used to live on one (el sobrante park east oakland) lol. its pretty tough to just pop up in certain hoods and try to grow, the locals are onto shit. you will be easy robbery or extortion target, i was so paranoid about burglary at my spot i rarely left the house...one of my neighbors slept with an AK47 next to his bed....my other neighbors had their door kicked in by a crackhead and robbed of their laptop at knivepoint, and there were several murders within a half mile radius that year, i heard the gunshots once while taking a piss in my bathroom...what a shitty neighborhood stay out of east oakland if you can.

if you can try to pick a nice neighborhood (the hills are nice but cost more), and dress as square as possible. act like a total nerd out of the 1950s HI THERE NEIGHBOR HOWDY HO!!

Wait there is NO conceal carry law in Cali? So what I have to strap up in a shoulder holster on the outside of my jacket?

the only way you can carry a gun outside your house in california is unloaded open carry. you keep the gun on one side and magazine on the other....its pretty stupid....oakland is proof that gun control is a joke..only the thugs pack heat.

Not true.

Most counties don't allow it but you can get a CCW in california.

Some counties require you to prove good cause (ie cash business, prior death threats), and some its sheriff discretion (ie no thugs).

But in general nope you aren't gonna get one. However look up the penalties for possession of a loaded registered firearm. Not positive but I'm pretty sure its a misdemeanor and that you aren't arrested at the scene but given a notice to appear. (assuming nothing else, discharging it, possesion of illegal substances, threats etc)

^^^ California does issue CCW permits, contrary to popular belief. The permits are issued by city or county law enforcement. Because cities normally defer the decision to the county, the sheriff usually issues the permits.

Talking about guns will get this binned. Please, we don't allow discussions on them here as they don't mix well with our general content ;)

well up in northern california guns and pot go hand in hand.

we arent talking about guns in a "everyone should go get one kinda way"

just discussing WHERE you are allowed to actually defend yourself.

Alameda county and San Francisco county, pretty much any urban county you CANNOT carry a gun around unless its unloaded open carry. DONT mix guns with your grow.

In the boondocks like shasta, trinity, tehama, the local sherriffs are known to issue CCW permits.

Yes and no, basically having a gun for protection is a lose lose situation. If you are in a life and death scenario and the gun saves your life the police are undoubtably going to investigate clean up the body, even if you are medical it looks really bad on your part and you are definitely going to lose the grow and catch a bad case.

If you have a gun to hunt with or go shoot shit in the forest with that is totally cool with me, just don't keep it near your grow as "protection" .. if you feel unsafe get a dog, mace, bat, taser, anything but a firearm....

Up here in Canada the medical marijuana is regulated federally so you can keep registered firearms at your grow or call the police if you are being robbed without fear of a bust.
