2 tent 1 room setup possibilities...

Ok, I have posted this in a couple other forums and got a few decent ideas...wanted to post it here to see what you all had to say about the possibilities of this setup.

I was sketching out ideas for my new space (corner of the basement), and instead of framing out different rooms with 2x4's and hanging a ton of panda plastic, I was contemplating a 2 tent setup. Framing one large simple room using 2x2 seems a lot easier. I am going to stay legal and will never have any more than 10 plants in veg or flower tent (20 total, eventually somewhat of a perpetual setup). 1k or 2 600hps and 400w mh for lights which I would both air cool on a dedicated duct bringing in cold basement air from outside the room and venting out the window. I was thinking of drying in the room, outside of the tents...that way, the carbon filter could take care of the air from the veg tent, flower tent, and drying herb...

Also was wondering if the passive vents from the other side of the wall would be enough fresh air pulled into the room for both tents? I'm planning on a 400+ cfm filter and fan in the room. There is also a 12" air duct in the ceiling which is attached to the rest of the house's HVAC. Another note, the basement is completely unfinished...concrete walls and no insulation in the ceiling. I'll attach a couple crude drawings of what I was thinking...just think it might be a lot easier to build, more manageable, and easier to revert back to normal if I had to for some reason... Thanks for any and all replies...can't wait to get this ball rolling, no matter how it ends up being setup.

thatll work its very similar to what i do kindof except i have 2 flower tents in one room and put a filter fan combo inside them to controle the funk and have an additional filter in the main room the tents r in.

That sounds like a pretty good idea. Honestly, if I was doing this is a basement, I'd frame it in. 2x4's and some OSB. Throw up three 4x4xH rooms, and run the two flower rooms on a flip with a single ballast. Saves a little on costs, and makes it more productive and less work per harvest. Also, if you can, I'd use hard tube for the duct, and maybe even 8" for that many hoods, but I'm not sure. You will also need to add some fans to the tents for air flow, I assume Exhaust means Exhaust fan?

Stoney, not a bad idea on fans/carbon filters in the tents and the room, being you do need airflow in the tents anyway.

I just finished setting up a friends house with almost the same setup. He has a 3X3 with a 400 in it and a 4X8 with 2 600's. They are in a room about your size. He's using a 4" blower to cool all the lights and then a 6 inch sucking through carbon scrubbers and recirculatiing into the room with the tents.

I can take some pics if you like. Let me know. Happy growing.

Romulus, I like your idea...it sounds very efficient. I don't know if I will be growing enough to have the 3 rooms, plus I am liking the idea of the area being more temporary and easy to take down. The three room idea is quite intriguing though, even if I was only flowering 4 or so in each room...

If staying with the tents, would it be necessary to have a filter/fan in the flowering tent? Could the smell leak into the lights ducting somehow? I was counting on a large one in the room itself taking care of the exhausted air from both tents and and creating the negative pressure needed to suck in a good amount of air from the rest of the basement.

Art- pics would be great if you have the time...man that is really similar to the setup I am thinking about...couple questions about it (ya more questions...lol)...are the lights on their own ducting from outside air? And where are the scrubbers located? If they are recirculating back into the tents, is he using another fan to exhaust the room or closed with C02? How are those temps and what's he using for tent airflow?

Boy is it hard to commit to a setup, especially with all of these great ideas...now the Romulan has me contemplating this 3 room setup, though I am still mostly on the tent track due to them being more temporary, confined environment, easy to clean, etc... Thanks all for the input so far!!

Man tell me about the hard to decide part... I know what I have to do because my location won't have other options (tent), but if you had a basement, I'd want to do a tiny tiny build out. Free standing 2x4/OSB.. That is, if you have a saw and think you can handle it. Time is money, and it may take some time.

Yes the smell could leak into the lights. People say if you blow air through vs suck air through that reduces/eliminates the issue, but the fans are more efficient sucking... Most fans, at least. I am not sure about the requirement of a carbon filter per tent AND in the room - I'd think a proper sized fan (1 air change per minute) per tent, and a big carbon filter/fan for the whole room would work.

I just bought 2 of these to see how noisy they may/may not be. I was going to drop $300 on some Panasonics, and I still may, but these were <$45 to my door and if they work, awesome! I am going to run a speed controller on them. Still not sure as to which type.. PID for temp control, and a Harbor Freight 'router speed controller' maybe...

What do you guys think about this slightly revised setup. The only change would be the filter on the end of the lights ducting, this way the filter would scrub the air coming through the lights as well as the funk in the rest of the room no?? Eliminates an exhaust port and another fan. The only thing would be less control of the system as a whole as the scrubbing and light cooling would all be inline and connected...

Would you guys have the venting the same with bringing in the basement air through the lights and exhausting outside or reversed?

Well, it won't let me upload the revised pic, but I am basically talking about moving the filter over to the left a bit in the sketch i did before so that it is inline with the lights ducting right before it gets exhausted out the window...
