mini split ac with DIY connectors

R

RedRain

looks cheap.

never heard of that brand. I stick with York or Fujitsu.

i guess go for it? it can only fail...

you dont need any tools or vaccuum pump, so thats a plus.

Is it a low ambient unit? It says it will go to 0F for heat pump, but some of the units won't cool if the ambient temp is below 60F, if you won't be using it in the winter or it doesn't get cold there, no problem. Find out the min/max cooling range

I've seen those units before, and that's a really good price. I can't speak to the quality of manufacture.

Great unit. Easy to install. Very quiet. It looks and feels well made, but a computer board failed after about 9 months and clearanceac could not obtain a replacement board from the Chinese manufacturer. After waiting for 4 weeks for a new board, I demanded a replacement unit and they provided a new outdoor condenser. I plugged it in and it has been running smooth for 8 months. I have had problems with fujitsu and bryant in the past, but it was easier to obtain replacement parts. The problem occurred last May and I hope clearanceac has the replacement part issue resolved. I really like the unit and plan to purchase many more.

Thanks for the great feedback.

also noticed another 'rebranding' of what looks to be the same unit .. but 300 bux cheaper

Considering that a comparable btu portable would run me 500 bux at least, this might not be a bad deal. Especially for somoene who rents or moves more frequently. Also, in the winter months, the outdoor unit could be moved inside more easily to provide stealth and heat.

99% of those off brand mini splits are made by a company called Chigo. Anyone can buy them in bulk and slap their name on it. And they are notorious for pc board failures.
My first mini split was an Amcor, a Chigo make of coarse. Within 2 weeks of install the outside pc board burned out. Same story as panther4141, endless waiting for an unobtainable part. Then Amcor went under and up pops a company called Pridiom. And of coarse Pridiom just so happens to have spare pc boards for Amcors, for $330. (In fact, the Pridiom units look EXACTLY like the Amcor.)
Now I have a Mr.Slim and will never buy anything but a Mr.Slim. Expensive, Yes. Worth every penny, Hell yes. I learned to install them myself. Spent a few hundred on the proper pump and gauges and studied very hard for months and took an online havc coarse for installing Fujitsu mini splits (couldn't weasel my way into a Mitsubishi coarse without actually having an hvac license.) Now I don't ever need to have an hvac dude out to my spot:D
panther 4141, google Pridiom. The replacement pc boards they sell works with your unit, guaranteed.

That unit is only 13 seer. You can get much higher seer rated units for even less $$$ than that one, as long as you don't mind it being an off brand. Or you can get a brand name with higher seer rating for only 2-3 hundred more.

I've had my eye on this one, this place has a Mr. Whisper using toshiba compressor's, guess they are knocking-off Mr. Slim by Mitsubishi. They got a one ton for $925.

Figure I would share the link.

Thanks for sharing the link. I noticed that this particular model does not list the inverter as a feature. This would seem like it would make a big difference in the amount of noise it makes (stealth) as well as efficiency.

After reading more about this, it seems that some people have said that an hvac place can actually create the easy fit connectors with any lineset of a mini split. I wonder though has anyone actually tried this out.
