Lighting question from newbie

I'm currently vegging with 24 hours of light, but soon need to switch to flowering. Do I need to switch to an 18 hours on/6 hours off schedule in veg before switching to flowering? For example, should I switch to 18 hours of light for a week or so, then switch to 12/12 for flowering, or can I just keep on going at 24 until I'm ready to flower.

IMO, 24/0 to 12/12 is fine.

Observe the results. If you want, try the next round with 18/6 added and compare the two. You might get variance in stretch but it may not be significant.

I don't know anything about using a 24/0 light schedule -- never used it. IMHO, the only regions of Planet Earth that ever have such a natural light schedule of 24/0 are in the extreme Northern and Southern latitudes, and evolution hasn't been kind to plants at those latitudes -- lichen and certain mosses, perhaps.

I admit it's a bit unnatural but posts here indicate 24/0 will veg faster with no ill effects. I usually try to veg the first month 14/10, hoping to up the female count.

Yeah, that's what I've been reading here on ICMag as well. If and when I get the opportunity, I would like to try a side-by-side test for myself. "Common knowledge" used to believe that the Earth was flat, too.

I go 18/6 rather than 24/0 purely to save on electricity costs. I've grown 24/0 before, but any difference in growth rate or pattern between the two different schedules that there might have been has been masked by other factors such as temperature and ventilation.

David762, FWIW, the idea that it was common knowledge that the Earth was flat is actually a myth drummed up to belittle the achievements of people in the middle ages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myth_of_the_Flat_Earth

I still get your point though ;)
