when do you trim bottom of plant?

I like to trim the bottom when I put them into the flower room. I also take the time to do a preventative bug spray. So far works for me.

Its really strain dependent... some strains i begin trimming from the beginining others i wait until i flip them... some i dont trim at all and just train.

strain dictates the method

I work for one of the bigger CO MMC's and we trim up the scraggle up to 3 weeks into flower(strain respective), I've trimmed up bottoms up to four weeks into flower on some chem d's and have still pulled about 1lb per 1k but only with proper training...

I trim the lower third say and use that for my cutting for the next crop. Some times I don't use a mother plant just those lower shaded and far from the light branches.

wait till it's budded up and stopped stretching - because you are also removing flowering hormones when you take anything away.

that said - im pretty lazy about doing it - even under a scrog screen. quite a few times ive been able to use that straggly bottom growth for a cutting later on into flower - its saved me quite a few great plants when something happened to the mother plant or the existing cuttings. reveg cuttings are your friend and much easier than revegging a plant.
i still get great yields.

Agree if you have too many females from seed and don't want to clone them all you can wait until you see how they do in early flower and used the lower trim for clonage from winners. :canabis:

you can also use those scraggly ass ugly lowers for pollination if you're feeling sassy.

i usually let the initial stretch happen, then see what didn't make it to the canopy and cut..but i usually leave 1 larf buddlette for either emergency clone, or 'hmmm, this pollen needs to go somewhere' situations.

you can do it before, but dont go too mad because you may remove branches that would othersise produce a half decent bud. after a couple of weeks when the flowers are formed at the tips and growth has stopped its easier to judge what is goo and what is not.

i just chuck the popcorn on the hash pile :) personally i doubt if removing it increases yields

Like others, on the day before she goes into flower I cut a few lower choice branches for clones (in lieu of a mother) and then about 14 days later, I top dress with my own soil mix strong in Jamaican bat guano. At the same time she gets a "high and tight" hair cut eliminating all fluffy crap away, and what ever pest control thing she needs. By this time, the bud formations are pronounced and I know who the winners are.

You should never trim before you flower. Why? Because you don't want a stretchy plant. You want all the lower crap to "absorb" the stretch so that you can concentrate on the good stuff on top that's getting light. So what you should do is wait until the stretch is over, about 2 weeks into flower, or until the buds are about the size of a pencil eraser. You should then remove the bottom 1/3 - 1/2 of the plant, but just use common sense.
