What does everyone yield with hard water? I am just curious about how much it effects everyones yield. I get about 350 grams for a 600 watt light.

You need both because using an RO system alone without a water softener you'll burn through RO membrane's like there's no tomorrow. That can get expensive in a hurry.

from what i understand about water softeners (and i could be wrong) they don't take anything out of the water, they change the charges in the ions. i have been running RO for years without a softener and have never had to change a membrane. my system has both a particulate and a carbon pre filter, i always thought these were standard on any RO system. am i missing something ?

That's good to know! I was pricing out both and if I don't need the water softener, I would rather not get one.

Does anyone else have experience with RO without using a water softener?

You don't need a softener with ro water. My ppm is 350 out the tap and have not changes filter side I bought it over a year ago.

I just bought a RO water unit for about 250$. I will update on how the plants like it when I get it and install it. I plan on doing a few tests with it. 50/50 RO and tap, Straight RO and maybe 80-20 RO-Tap. It should be here in about a week. So, it will take a while to get some results.

Here are some results for you. I use about 85-90% RO water and 10-15% tap water and my yield increased by over 100 grams. I used the same nutes and grew the same strains as my previous grow. I HIGHLY recommend anyone with "bad" tap water to get an RO system. It has greatly increased my yield and the bud density.

If you don't know if you have bad water, I recommend getting it checked out. I wish I got an RO system about 10 years ago.
