What has happened with the human race?

I know this is gonna go against my beliefs and what I have said here, and I have bit my tongue so far but heres what I would like see done.
Put the woman in prison for the rest of her natural life. Keep her in a cell 24/7, no t.v./radio. She can have a book or newspaper. But I would plaster pictures all over her cell of this little girls face to constantly remind her of what she's done.
I would love to see her go stir crazy very slowly.
Guess I'm sick to for having those feelings.

Seems to me there is two different trains of thought going on here. Lets remember the shooter was involved in a home invasion for drugs, supposed to be a million dollars worth of drugs. The ranch was picked for its remote location.

and in addition, the money they were after was to be used to foment a race/border war. there's just levels/tiers of crazy-bad-evil to this story.

it isn't lessening their craziness or abject evil to note...it sounds rather manson-esque. it sounds like we've collectively had this shock before because we have.

in 1968, a parent could have looked at the situation - a crazed band of loonies chopping up a pregnant lady over essentially ideology (that the victim was entirely unattached to)... and thought 'holy shit, what kind of evil pervades the world when this happens...and i'm letting loose a kid into this' - and i'd reckon many did.

i guess if i have a bottom line, it's 'we haven't cornered the market on evil, horror, or societal pitfalls', even if looking around it seems like we have. that wheel's been turning longer than you or i, i reckon.

I was in Long Beach visiting my uncle when the Manson stuff went down. That really did blow a lot of folks away. I remember Grandma flying us back east because of the murders.... never did make it to knotts berry farm because of Charlie.

I think the introduction to "Idiocracy" sums it all up perfectly. Technology is advancing too quickly for society to properly handle. Everyday I look at all these people that are addicted to their cell phones and cars and tv's...they couldn't imagine life without them, they'd be so lost. It brings a tear to my eye to think about how useless the average human being has become in just the last 50-100 years.

I remember being a kid and going out and playing at the park...we had a few video games but we didn't sit inside all day, we'd actually go out and do stuff outside without having to be told to. These days I drive by empty parks and basketball courts because all the kids are inside on their xbox or ps3. If you tell a kid to go outside and play they act like it's some kind of punishment.

...but don't sweat it, just keep paying the king's taxes and feeding your kids ritalin so that they don't get too loud while playing their video games...wouldn't want them to interrupt mom's csi marathon or facebook conversation, because then she might not have to time to run to the store later in the suv to pick up some mcdonald's for dinner again.

There is Bigger stuff going on here:

The issue, whether you realize it or choose to disbelieve it, is the confines of the monetary system as we try to transition from an industrialized species to a technology species. The monetary system is to old of a system, based on built in failures and increasing dept, to support a globalized/unified economy.
Scarcity, an absolute necessity in the current dept based monetary system, is non existent.
Technologically we can out produce almost anything on the market well beyond what any demand could ever be. This destroys the whole current supply and demand "free market" concept. This is exactly why we, as society, need to fake less supply. ie Why we have been paying farmers to NOT produce as much or to DESTROY their crops since 1933.

agree or not, that is the reality.

The monetary system causes divisions in people. It causes stress induced ailments.

It is the true embodiment of the phrase "Money is the root of all evil". This is not just a cliche phrase, it is a fact that must be overcome for our species to transition in to the technology age. We are just seeing an increase in the symptoms as the problems worsens.

To put it into growing terms:
It's like, as a society, we are adding more and more high N ferts because we see yellowing leaves when in reality its is totally a PH lockout issue.

Putting a women or a man in prison seems like the wrong punishment IMVHO ..#1 the prisons are as insane as they get and this is NO WAY to reform a sick person .. It's like throwing a person into shark invested waters and telling him to splash around. We need to reform to reformers .. peace out Headband707

I agree. That's the main problem of the middle east. They need to just come together and have a good ol' fashion pig roast. Nothing brings folks together better IMO.
*** no offense to those that don't eat pork due to religious beliefs. This was just poking fun at the crisis going on over there.***

Hahahhahahah, very good mate, seeing that 90% are Muslims and dont eat pork, 5% are Jews, who dont either.

Maybe they could do a fatted calf instead.

It is ironic that the land that spawned The Hashishim and thus the word hashish is so incredibly conservative when it comes to cannabis. As far as im aware, you can get some hash in the Middle East, but not bud, maybe your right, a bacon lettuce and tomato might do wonders, but id go for several bongs of Northern Lights for breakfast as a first prescription.:)

Nostalgia can make the past seem a lot better than it was when you get into comparing now vs then.

More seriously, im quite old, and though i dont do nostalgia, contrary to what you might think, i do think that things where very different even as near as the ninties.

As an example, in the 90's script kiddie computer hacking was rife in The US, The UK and Europe, now hackers are terrified they are going to end up in Guantanamo Bay, Look at the case of Gary McKinnon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_McKinnon This guy is shitting himself, he did some very basic hacking because he is a geek and he cant help trying things out (something very common in years past). Now he is in prison in Britain facing extradition to the US for a crime he commited on British soil (hacking is a crime here too) and a possible/probale life term.

Bare in mind, that this "criminal act" happened on British soil, under British Jurisdiction, and because of treaty's brought in as a direct result of the 9/11 tragedy, he is now subject to American jurisdiction.

And though what he did is criminal act under statute law, he wasnt doing this to harm the US, or to spy for China, hee's a UFO nut, he thinks that the American Military is holding back some great secret, he's one step from being a foil hat candidate.

Under British jurisdiction, in a court here, for this crime, he would be found guilty (probably) and fined something like £200-300 pounds say $300-500 dollars.

Prior to 9/11 this would not have been a legal possibility at all.
There are other people facing arrest and possible extradition to the US such as Julian Assange for his part in founding Wiki leaks, or poor old Bradley Manning http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley_Manning
Who oddly is also a British Citizen http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/feb/01/bradley-manning-uk-citizenHis treatment is far more harsh in the present climate than it would have been say 15 years ago.

Do you remember the Chinese American scientist, i cant remember his name who gave away All, and i mean All, of Americas nuclear secrets, he just got jailed, simple.

So Yes, i think things are very different now, there are lots of people out there running shy of the United States who have done either nothing wrong at all, or really quite minor stuff.

Obviously there are also the Osama Bin Ladens too if you like, but that doesnt justify extreme measures of the sort The US administration feels justified in taking.

The whole extraordinary rendition thing as well, this is terrifying stuff if you are not an American, and bare in mind, most people in the world are not American.

So, yes, the western World is very tense these days, we have some very refined forms of stranger panic, and i believe this poor woman, who killed these poor people, is just another poor fucker caught up in the madness. Because, cold blooded execution of a child is what muslims call "jahilia" an act of barbarous madness.

Im sure it haunts her every moment, day and night.

No, its a mis quotation, the correct quote is "The LOVE of money is the root of all evil":)

Sorry.

and because of the addition of "the love of" in front a common phrase, quoted correctly by the majority of society or not, somehow makes any of the context of the post less valid? (Edit: Any way the phrase is stated, it is still a major obstacle that needs to be overcome before we can evolve to the next stage in our societal progression.)

mosstrooper, a little tip for you, try to have some substance in your post that actually pertains to the subject if you choose to add ... you tend to come across as having reading comprehension issues in more then a few of the threads you are part of. You seem to have a tendency to pick one line out of someone's post, out of context, and run off on a tangent.
No hate, just an observation. enjoy your day.

Ooh, how hurtful.
But as to your point, the Love of, rather than Money itself, is deemed, according to the quotation to be, the root of all evil.

So, yes, sorry, it was still a misquotation.

As for my reading issues, i have my glasses on now, and i see all too clearly.

Well folks has stated above I have part of a pig in the smoker and need to attend to it.

I do want to say a few things though:

First of all, I wish to thank everyone for keeping it mature and level headed. Even if I, or others, don't agree with what may have been said.

The reason I posted this on the internet is because this is something that has touched me very deeply. The only reason I can think of is because the media let it be known how the child pleaded for mercy and received death instead. In the 52 years I've been around, I can not ever recall reading something similar. This could of been my grandchild, you know. Hopefully those that are parents/grandparents understand where I'm coming from.

I'm sure some think why not talk about this elsewhere. I know me. And I know that more than likely I would have gotten into a fight if I tried to discuss this face to face with someone. Where as here, I can step back from the computer and regain my composure before continuing if I don't agree with something.

Anyway, My pork needs attending before guest arrive. We have a good ol' fashion pot luck dinner planned with a few friends, gonna get ripped, then head to the music venue to watch the show we have tickets for.

In conclusion, all I ask is that if this thread continues, to please keep it on the course it's presently on.
Thanks

seconded.

Im not even slightly surprised this has affected you so much, its very shocking, such things are. Sadly in some parts of the world, people begging for mercy and not a bullet to the head is a daily occurrence.

Dont get me wrong, im not trying to belittle what has happened, nor your reaction to it, it is after all, the only sane reaction there is.

I suspect my views might seem controversial if not inflamatory to many Americans, though i imagine not all. But i assure you, they are sincerely held and well meant.

no hurtfulness intended, just an accurate observation.... but let me dumb down my explanation so you comprehend what I was actually saying without distracting yourself on your misread details ....

I NEVER QUOTED, I stated a common PHRASE ... fully understanding that it is a commonly misquoted saying. When someone quotes something they would type something like this:
"The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil" - New Testament, 1 Timothy 6:10, King James Edition.

Please note that a true Quote will not only have the quote text but also a verifiable source of the quoted material. See the difference now? Please also note that the above quote is the actual true quote ... read some King James before you try to correct people next time.

:eek:k.. back to normal:
What I was trying to point out to you is that it seems common that you don't seem to read someones post for the purposes of understanding the full content and context of their post. You seem to get fixated on one line and go off on your own, in this case trying to correct me with wrong information.
This does not serve the conversation amongst us all any service. You are just trying to distract the conversation into a debate about superfluous semantics.
Put down your red inked pen an talk about the context of people's ideas.
carry on.

The sad thing is, that I fully expect to see a major escalation in global violence in the coming decade. I believe it will get a LOT worse before we see the proverbial "light at the end of the tunnel" in how our society treats each other. It's a shame.

I think society will treat each other better if and when countries honor the sovereignty of respective citizens, not leaders installed with the help of other countries that want favorable business associations. Until we get there we're subject to the few who wish to sell what they don't rightfully own.
