Baba Ku: OK, I'll just stick with CFLs then and try some LST. As far as efficiency of vertical set up - I did some reading earlier and it seems to be very efficient. However, in my case it may be difficult to adopt. My box is in the middle of my living room so it has to be stealth. Additionally, box is exposed in front, back and top. That leaves me with only one wall to fit intakes, outtakes, electrical wiring etc. (ironically, its the small wall of my cab). Adopting vertical light might pose the need of additional air ducting -> stronger fans -> more noise to cope with. At this point I'll just keep it the way it is. It's my first grow for my personal use so I'll be happy with whatever results I will get, learning as I go.

Other thing - today I noticed green algae(?) around roots. I know somebody posted here question weather it's a good or bad thing to happen but I can't recall it now. So should I be concerned?

Again, thanx Baba Ku
If you can see algae on the roots then yeah, it could potentially be an issue. The reason you have algae there is because you can see the roots. Algae needs light to grow..and translucent pots allow that light in to the roots. Maybe upsize to a proper pot with some new soil?
All that said, a little green on the roots certainly won't be a grow killer.

Be sure to anchor the main stalk down low, and pull the plant in the opposite direction the first time you LST. This will help to keep the root intact and undamaged.
You can see some of my low anchors here...

OK. I moved the plant to different pot (same as yours) and started LST. Geez, I still don't have a screen for SCRoG. One more trip to Home DePOT...

Going vert usually runs a lot cooler too. I waspc fan able to keep mine cool with a single ~80c.f.m. pc fan over my vert 150 and 8 two inch passive intakes. The floor space was only 18"x18", but a grow area of 9' square. Go vert, you won't regret it!

j23- not too small for vertical

small cabinet here.
bottom of shelf to top = 30 inches. and i dont use all of the room.
(rez(s) on one or more 2" blocks to move closer to the light) still some head room left.

I run a vertical cool tube. no regrets. all yeild!
vertical will get more light penetration. DO IT! lol

also FIM it when its short. greatly improved my yeild vs lst.

yall have me pretty curious i used to run 2 150's but now run a 600 do yall really think that verticle is that much better and if so could i do a 600 watt vert. The verts. that i've seen are pretty impressive whats the up and down sides to this method?

A lamp positioned vertically utilizes the light in the most efficient manner. Any lamp wattage can be run vertically, it will just require the proper set-up.
I have a cab that has a 400 with a 150 hung vertically in a cool tube.
The floor space is about 19"x23" and I can flower out a half pound of jarred bud. Although, I really don't like pushing it to it's limits...it's lots of work. I can flower out 1/4 lb every 9 wks without even thinking about it.
I could do better numbers with the same lamps if I wasn't cloistered by the cab.

When it comes to the small lamps like the 150, there is really no comparison. Sure you can grow a good sized scrog with them, but you can have the same amount of weed much sooner simply growing sog vertically.

Almost sold to vertical... I'm in the middle of switching my jobs so I'm kind of focusing on that but what the heck, I can just do a test run without changing my configuration just to see the temps... Still, I have only one plant but if everything is OK maybe I'll give it a shot!

one month old today:

I counted 7 budsites!

Well, I was talking about a 550 watt set-up. 1/2 ends up being only ~.4gpw, which isn't bad considering a total of 8 gallons of soil and in a less than 2'x2' footprint. You must have some height as well to get to 1/2lb. I like to think that I am getting the best out of the buds by using a CMH with an HPS.

Well, 1.5gpw would be awesome :). Highest I've read about was around 0.8gpw. There's a challenge for some mini heath robinson out there :)

ohhh .. now i get it

ohhh .. now i get it

-Baba

I want the new philips CMH 150 watter.

400 and a 150 to get the half!

-J23
i hope this helps your decision..

past runs utilized a perpetual setup. 4 girls total. in pairs
(advantage big ones shared same vertical space as newbies really utilizing all the light all the time!) - think overlap

results:
2 z - unmanaged -poor genetics, no fim, too far from light
4 z- managed (at the beginning) - better genes (sk#1), fim, close to light
+5 z- heavily managed- same genes, fim, staked, close to light, vegged for awhile

now.. first time running full cabinet. 3 sk 1 chemdog

Was going for 6 until Baba's post.
7 isnt out of the question.
8 seems impossible! going to try anyways

Thought I'd get in on the fun :ying: Bag seed from some unknown, but pretty good & slightly purple smoke at about 3 weeks 12/12. 3 gallon grow bags & LC's mix #1. Got 3 others like this, but this is the best looking one. There's a small clone to the lower left. I'm under some time restraints, so my cuttings barely had time to root before they went under the 150.

I can tell it's frosty from a wide angle shot...

imagine what the macros will look like.:)

great bud structure and size for only three weeks.
